Holes Book Review
Dear Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott, Ever wonder how to increase the graduation rates and set students one the right track with their education? Young students love to use technology and allowing students to use it in class will motivate them to do their work.I would like to introduce my opinion about digital natives to you. I believe that being a digital native can help a person in a variety of ways socially and educationally. Being a digital native can help a student, such as I, with homework and studying. Computers allow us to access the internet which gives students valuable resources to develop and improve their work. Being a digital native also gives student advantages in a classroom because it allows student to make interesting power points for projects and presentation. Saving classwork on technology is reliable, keeps documents in order and just by sending the document to an email or saving it on a flash drive, the document can be accessed through almost any device like laptops, tablets, cell phones, and desktops. With given the right tools and guidance, students are bound to succeed. Being a digital can help student a lot socially and educationally. Using technology for school purposes is beneficial in many ways for students and teachers. I believe that all students should be allowed to use technology in school for classwork because it is reliable and it increases productivity in students work. With increased productivity in students school work, the graduation rates will increase as well. Most students these days are digital natives, all you, the chancellor, needs to do is give us the technology and permission. You will not regret it! Sincerely,

I chose Holes by Louis Sachar for the book that I would save if I could only save one book. Although I read it about eight years ago, I have very fond memories of this story. I remember when I was about eight years old, my family and I listened to the audiobook while we were waiting for the Fourth of July fireworks to start. It is a small event, but I have not forgotten it yet, and I am not sure that I will anytime soon. In addition to the fond memories of reading and listening to this story, the movie, starring Shia LaBeouf, is one of my all time favorites. I watch this movie when I am sick, when I am happy, when I am sad, I watch it every chance that I get. Both the movie and the book brighten my mood whenever I watch or read them.…

Toledos counter argument is that the impact that technology has had on students is far more complex than Prensky makes it out to be. Toledo presents other models such as digital recluse, digital refugee, digital explorer, digital innovator and digital addict, each are different models that were put forward after digital natives and immigrants. She suggests that digital immigrant teachers are not completely against technology and would use it in their classrooms if they could see how it would benefit their students. Toledo (2001, pp. 7) Toledo uses a reader’s comment to justify her counter argument because the claim says that the claims Prensky makes are too simplistic and are generalized in saying that all students embrace technology while their educators resist it. Bennett et al reacts to Prensky by saying that his claims are general and the evidence put forward are based on common sense beliefs. Bennett et al believes that not all young people possess the characteristics and skills that are said to be possessed by digital natives. For example, multitasking is said to be a distinctive trait that digital natives possess but Bennett says that this isn’t true because multitasking does not help in the way Prensky says it does. The claim that all students are natives is not true because not all students have grown up immersed in technology and the impact it will have on them will differ due to their socio-economic backgrounds and home…

Did you know that more than half of the world’s students are using tablet computers? To all the students out there who are not lucky enough to even use a computer (at home or at school), I am deeply sorry for you since half of the people that are at the same age as you are surrounded by information, and are improving their knowledge of the world everyday. No worries! After this speech you will have all the rights to go against who ever would not let your school have laptops/computers. "How is it possible to convince my headmaster to let us have computers in school?” A Chinese proverb once said: “Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in a different time.” It clearly states how the minds of the elders and the juniors are so different since they were born in different times or even centuries. Would you rather listen to a person who has a mind to create more possibilities and not stick to the old rules or a person who sticks any same old rules that their elders once told them and rule the school? I bet you most people would choose a person who creates more possibilities than an old man who sticks to the rules and not let the school have technology. I mean, what is the point of a school, which only has books and pencils, and never interact with visual presentations; it would make the students lives in to hell! When they grow up, what job would require them to only write in books and pencils? If your child does not know anything about technology, what can they even be when they grow up? Nothing is my answer to that. You might say an architect, but sadly, they do use computers too, since after they finish the planning and design of the building, they would have to scan it on a computer and send it out to the managers. Our lives depend on technology and computers. Kids in school used to write on paper and read out of books But the fact is, more and more kids in school…

Technology can help students develop through exploration and research to better learning skills. Students who collect information from the Internet tend to be more independent and do not need to rely on the teacher as much. Students can also create their own understanding of a subject, so it is easy for teachers to understand the students' knowledge.…

Our students are growing up in a society that is technology based. It is our responsibility as teachers to make sure that our students are getting the best education they can get by infusing traditional learning with technology and making learning interesting. It is important that as teachers we are making sure that our students are prepared for their future, by making them proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics. If schools provided state-of-the-art technology for each classroom this could make things a lot easier to achieve. The more students learn about technology in the earlier grades, the better prepared they will be for a higher level of education as well as life in general.…

Vishal Singh, the hero of this article, is surely an exact example of the “Digital Natives”, who are really lured by the digital realm. He’s totally indulged in making music digital videos and talented in filmmaking, seemingly, his future career. However, it is a pity that he “lacks the self-control”, which has led to his distractions in learning. It’s greatly touching how his parents won’t “put roadblocks in his way” and are willing to help him to achieve his dream of filmmaking. Additionally, deeply admirable, David Reilly, principal of Woodside High School where Vishal is studying, who sympathizes with his students and is generous enough to build a multimedia center to encourage them to display their digital wit.…

The world will keep advancing on the same technological path; therefore, students must be surrounded by the growing advancements in technology to be successful in the workplace. In the social media survey (personal communication, March 29, 2017), 93 percent of respondents said that technology based learning is beneficial to schools. However, this technology is not to replace teachers themselves. The technology should only be used to teach students the tools used in jobs. For example, the use of PowerPoint for presentations or Excel for spreadsheets in labs will all be useful when working in the field. Technology in education can be a great tool if used properly and effectively.…
