-HIV positive is a fragile virus transmitted only through contact with body fluids. HIV attacks CD4 cells and macrophages. CD4 cell = T helper cell attacks this. It is the bridge for the target of the antigen and killing it. HIV gets in the helper cell and sends out more viruses to kill more CD4 cells. HIV slowly debilitates body immune systems, both T cell and B cell immunity. There is a latent period where the virus particles increase in blood and the CD4 level decreases in blood which increases the vulnerability to opportunistic infections. AIDS Diagnosis(acquired immune deficiency syndrome) occurs when there are 200 CD4 cells, HIV antibody, and presence of opportunistic infection. When …show more content…
HIV is transmitted through body fluids, blood, breast milk, and saliva into open wounds. The patient is also at risk for developing hospital acquired opportunistic infections so you would need to make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after taking care of him.
This information was found from Mrs. Piras's PowerPoint over infection. Photo's of her slide's are below. https://elearn.tntech.edu/d2l/lp/documents/azRSINCHoYON5XmAFFab23576743/43/5 What aspects of K.D.'s care can you delegate to the LPN? (Select all that apply.)
a. Administering first dose of IV trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim)
b. Monitoring K.D.'s pulse oximeter readings, reporting values under 95%
c. Developing a plan of care to improve K.D.'s oxygenation status
d. Providing instructions about a high-calorie, high-protein diet
e. Reinforcing teaching with K.D. regarding good handwashing techniques
f. Repositioning K.D. and having him deep breathe every 2 hours
-B, E, F. The LPN can monitor the patient's vital signs such as the pulse oximeter readings, as well as reinforcing education that the RN has already implemented. The LPN can also reposition the patient and have them deep breath every 2 hours. List at least five other opportunistic infections that K.D. is at risk for
