Same Sex
Imagine being in love with someone special, but never having the ability to make the relationship official. For many same-sex couples across the United States is been a reality. Even though great strides have been made in the advancement of gay and lisbian rights and homosexual couples still face opposition from the Federal Government by being denied the right to a marriage. Same sex marriages should be constitutionalized. To the latter group of people, lesbians and homosexuals should have similar civil rights, including marrying anybody.

For many decaes same sex marriage have been one of the leading political topics in the United States. Forexample, during World War II brought many different social and political changes to the United States of America. One of the major changes was the discovery of homosexuality (Same Sex Marraige). In the article, "Same Sex Marriage", stated that homosexuality used to be considered a mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association until 1973. According to an article by Elizabeth Ahlin, in 2000 an amendment passed in the state of Nebraska did not allowed same sex marriage and there was no campaign against this. she Stated that the financial benefits received from a marriage appeal to same sex couples. Elizabeth Ahlin also claimed that there was other benefits that married heterosexual couples receive, but homosexual couples do not. She meantioned that "One benefit is that a spouse may be representative of the other spouse if he or she is unable to speak for his or herself. For example, if a woman was in a terrible car accident and placed on life-support, her husband has the right to decide whether or not she should stay on life-support". Thus, the husband possesses the power of deciding when to end his wife’s life while consequently putting his spouse out of her misery (same sex marriage).

In the artcle, "Fast facts: Same Sex Marriage," stated in 2004 that the State Supreme Court of California ordered the city and county of San Francisco to stop issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples and said that legal action could proceed about whether California was restriction of marriage to different sex couples violates the state’s constitution. Lambda Legal, the National Center of Lesbian Rights and the ACLU promptly filed a lawsuit against the state to win the right to marry for same-sex couples throughout California and that case had been moved through the California court system and in May 2008, the California Supreme Court ruled that barring lesbian and gay couples from civil marriage violates the California Constitution. California was constitution guaranteed equality, liberty and privacy for all. In 2005, the California Legislature passed the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act, which had ensured equal treatment under the law by allowing same sex couples to marry in California (Fast facts: Same Sex Marriage). Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill. The California Legislature passed the bill again in 2007 by an even wider margin. Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed it a second time, saying the question should be decided by the California Supreme Court and that he would respect the high court’s decision (Fast facts: Same Sex Marriage). According to the artcle Fast facts: Same Sex Marriage by CNN claimed that it gave all the rights to the gay and lesbian couples , benefits and obligations of marriage under state law, along with the equal dignity that comes with the word itself. Because more gay and lesbian couples make their home in California than in any other state, winning complete legal equality for same sex couples in the Golden State provided secure legal protection and equal respect to many thousands of law-abiding, tax-paying families. It also helped to show the rest of the country that ending discrimination against gay and lesbian families had only positive effects.
