History of fashion magazines and supplements in daily newspapers
Fashion journalism in Pakistan has come to a rise recently. However the roots of fashion magazines and supplements have been around for a while. The first major international level fashion magazine in Pakistan was Libas however before that the supplements of The News were the only platform for fashion journalism, namely Instep Today. This supplement was and is still published every Sunday; it is an entertainment/lifestyle weekly that focuses on everything from movies and music to fashion. It also used to include fashion photo shoot, however now with the rise of fashion magazines in Pakistan they are not so frequent. Instep Today is known for its reviews of the latest movies, music, events and designers; it also reports international events.
These days the newspaper supplement/magazine to beat is Daily Time’s weekly magazine Sunday Times. Sunday Times is a weekly magazine, which showcases the latest trends and events across Pakistan. Recently the 400th issue was published. Sunday Times is the magazine that all designers want to be showcased in and all events including weddings, fashion shows, launches and award functions are given coverage in. Sunday Times covers a range of topics from fashion and lifestyle to celebrity profiles, community events, and social causes and it is the leading weekly magazine in the country. Another plus point Sunday Times has on its side is that it comes free with the Daily Times Newspaper every Sunday. In its lifestyles section they have features from successful architects giving advice on decorating, beauty professionals such as Depilex’s Redah Misbah giving beauty tips. Their events coverage is the best in town and top designers such as Kamiar Rokhni and HSY contribute to the content. Sunday’s covers and fashion shoots always promote designers known and upcoming. Also their editor’s picks section is very famous as it has a list of 5 -10 things that the public should
