There is a perception that history is written by the victor. With this in mind Winston Churchill said this “History will be kind to me for I intend to write it” To understand why Winston Churchill said this you must understand Historiography. Historiography is writing about rather than of history. It’s the study of the way history has been and is written. Winston Churchill meant by his statement that he would write history in his favor because he plans to win the what ever it is that he needed to win. When a historian uses the primary source in another text then a secondary source has been created. When another historian argues that the secondary misuses (or correctly) the primary source, that is Historiography. History is written in a way that makes the victor seem “Good” and the loser “Bad”. That’s why when Winston Churchill said “History will be kind to me for I intend to write it” he is saying that he will be victories and be the won that makes history follow his journey in defeating HIS enemy. Therefore history will make Winston Churchill Good even if he wasn’t; it’s all to do with who wins the struggle. For example if the Nazi’s won and took control History would look kindly on them stating that what they did was Good and Justified. History is subjected to perspectives and bias by the victor, history is a result of point of view it is both subject to the bias of who presents it as it is subject to the bias of who observes it. To find Truth in history you must realize that history is the many different point of views people who have recorded it. For example when considering the aboriginals that inhabited Australia before the white man. Recorded history has many different views on them.
