As the years have went on, homosexuality has went from being condemned and discrete, to being more accepted, partially understood and somewhat tolerated. Somewhere through the fight of homosexuality labels were given to the individuals who practice this type of sexual orientation. Women who seek relationships with other women are known as lesbians and males who seek relationships with other males are known as gay. Some religions teach that homosexuality is an abomination before God and a sin; however, some cultures teach their children that boys should engage sexually with other boys through their adolescent years in order to enter manhood which would then give them the right to be heterosexual. Religions such as Christianity teach that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination before God. These same people who are casting guilt, shame, and intolerance onto homosexual people, are also the same people who are not supposed to judge others. Some cultures have boys engaging in sexual relationships with other boys until they become a man. Some cultures and religions condemned homosexual acts and even killed people over it. As the years have went on, the gay community have fought a battle to have equal rights, after all they are human just as African Americans and Jews. Although the battle is still not over, there have been significant changes within the communities against gays and lesbians. Same sex marriage is being allowed in some states. A more harsh punishment/ sentence is being given to those who commit any type of hate crime or discrimination towards any homosexual person. The gay and lesbian community is banning together and fighting to eventually have complete equal rights and will not give up until they
