In the article it says “negates the spirit of volunteering itself.” With this it causes students to feel like it’s almost a “bad” thing because they see it as a job that has to be done instead of actually learning how to give back to the community because you desire to do it. Volunteering would come off as “forced work” to students as well as mandatory everyday work. When students have so much going on it’s almost impossible to keep up with community service and other activities going on in their life.…

From this activity I have learn that just attending university and receiving grades is not all that is required to attaining a future with a pleasant job. Volunteering and work experience are also necessary, therefore, I would consider joining a volunteer or work opportunity while attending university. The next step I am going to take toward my preferred future is to obtain a job, I will do this by applying to jobs that require communicating with people, working with children or opportunity for networking. Another step that I can take is to volunteer at my old high school, I have already worked at an elementary school, and therefore it would be nice to see if I would have a similar or dissimilar experience at the high…

In “Serve or Fail,” Dave Eggers dissatisfies the phenomenon that although college students have too much leisure, they are not willing to give a few hours doing community services. Eggers suggests that colleges should consider instituting a service requirement for graduation, and colleges are best-poised to create in their students a lifelong commitment to volunteering. He pointed out that there are even programs done by colleges and high schools in order to gain more than two million volunteer hours a year. Owning a lot of time, Being mature and able to handle wide range of tasks, and receiving the opportunity to discover a potential career, make Eggers believes that college students are uniquely suited to do volunteer work. Eggers admits that a service requirement will not work everywhere, therefore colleges could give credit for services instead of forcing students to finish a graduation requirement. Moreover, he thinks colleges could provide the service requirement in their junior year, because the students are settled and have more hours and stability in their schedules. Eggers emphasizes that volunteering is by nature transformative, even they are forced to serve, their sympathy will be shown once they meet those who need their help. In addition, there is no reason for colleges to ignore how students may contribute to the world.…

Also the school director tries to help this children by give them opportunity to study without tuitions fee, which is make financial support from the government is not enough. Therefore, my friends and I went to give the necessary stuffs such as sport facilities and some amount of money that my friends and I did the donation from kind-hearted people. We also educated them in various topics such as teach them English daily use sentences and basic economics in term of how to saving. The reason that I choose to teach them how to saving is I found that their family financial status is not good, so it is necessary for them to use money correctly and make sure that they will not overspending.…

Yes, volunteering teaches you social skills and it looks good on a resume, but none of that stuff matters if you don’t have a good character. Your character is something that you can’t get rid of, but you can change. Volunteering can change you into a more patient, loving, and smart individual. In the past I’ve volunteered for the Carl Perkins Center, which deals with children who have been abused. Working with these children showed me how blessed I am. It made me more thankful, for my parents and family members. I made it my job to make those children happier than they were when I walked in. By the time I left I was the one who was more affected. Those children didn’t care about worldly things; all they wanted was your attention. This showed me that the gift of time is sometimes the best gift a person can…

I was privileged enough to be a part of a program in my high school that encouraged participating in volunteer work for both the community and school. For the past 3 years of my high school career, I was able to volunteer at neighborhood events hosted by a recreational center to a larger scale event like the Little Feet Meet hosted by Old Dominion University, where a Special Olympics is organized for elementary students across Norfolk who have mental and physical disabilities. By volunteering to these type of events, I realized that one of the fundamental aspects of being a good citizen is helping provide an environment in which everyone can feel free and…

First of all, mandatory voluntarism is positive for high school students because they gain skills and abilities which is one of the most important points a student can learn because it can help them to get a better job in the future. For instance, when I was in high school in México, I volunteered at a library as secretary and tutor. My job was helping children to improve their grades, making documents, and filling out the forms for the library books. I volunteered in the library because it was a requirement from my high school. In the beginning, I was not happy, but at the end of my period of volunteering I learned lots of skills, especially computer skills. Also, I felt a satisfaction in myself and increased my self-confidence because…
