High School Transcript Analysis
I am writing to offer an explanation for a change in academic performance that is noticeable on my high school transcript.

From the start of my freshman year until the end of my junior year, it is evident through analysis of my transcript that I have been an above average student consistently throughout my high school career. However, starting at around August 2010, problems arose in my family of which I believe made it impossible for me to continue my 100% focus on school.

Halfway into my senior year, my father was laid off from his job. Since he was the only source of income at that time, our family of five was forced to move from our comfortable lives at our four bedroom house into our grandmother’s two bedroom house. This was a drastic

This affected me not only academically but socially and athletically. The stress of the work isolated me from my peers and this caused them to complain to me in which I was pressured to work extra hard to complete my studies to make time for them. In addition to the weight of trying to pass and maintain a social life, I had to go to extensive hours of after school practices for my school’s water polo team. As part of the team, they relied on me to play my part and it made me feel burdened to practice harder to make up for my lack of good grades. Because of my naivety on how to balance a high school life, my anxiety was beginning to build. The next semester the pace got faster and the workload doubled. I was horrified with myself that I couldn’t catch up. I found all my classmates around me struggling as well but it felt like I got the brunt of it. It came to a point—my tipping point—when I was depressed and at that moment, I gave up. I thought, “If I can’t even pick up my grade then there’s no point in trying.” By then, it was rounding the end of the school year. My parents were breathing down my neck and treated me harshly to get my grades up but I…

Still, a lot of downfalls came into play. I skipped classes enough to lose count and I mainly put on a false front that I was sick just to stay home. In addition to never doing my homework, and when I did I copied from a classmate. Which I later realized wasn’t the best choice when it came to tests. Immediately upon commence of junior year I was called into the office for a meeting with the dean and my mother. The dean carefully evaluated my grades and came to a conclusion, with my mother’s approval, that I should be transferred to a continuation high school, considering I was behind seventy credits. So the changes were made and I was transferred…

I was just ten when my parents told me that my dad got a new job and that we had to move from New York to Georgia. At that moment millions of thoughts rushed into my mind. I didn't want to move. I had a lot of friends and family here, I was on a little league team, everything is great here, and I didn't like the idea of leaving that all behind. I didn't even know where Georgia was. But I knew I had no choice, so that last day of school I said my goodbyes to my friends and teachers with sadness in my heart, knowing I wouldn't see them again next year. I got home, packed everything, and closed the door of the empty house. We drove thirteen hours to our new home. During those thirteen hours of sleeping and staring out the window, a mix of sadness…

I feel as if my external distractions as an adolescent led to difficulties in my academics, which resulted in my struggle to graduate to high school. However, these struggles have helped me to grow as a student as well as appreciate my education here at Cal State Monterey Bay. My academic record remains far from perfect, and I know this. I’m determined to continue to repair the damage I’ve caused and obtain a degree and start a career, not only for myself, but for my new family as well. Before jumping back into classes, I took over a year off from school to address and manage certain areas of my life that have kept me from focusing on my academic career. During the Spring 2011 semester, my life became increasingly overwhelming and chaotic. While trying to balance an overabundant amount of bills and expenses, I was also involved in a very demanding and emotionally abusive relationship at the time. My biggest regret during this time was giving this person enough power to control my actions and derail me from achieving my goals. It was a learning experience, and one I hope to never repeat. This instability, along with battling an existing heart arrhythmia condition, only became more difficult when I began experiencing stress induced petit mal seizures. I was completely unaware that I was experiencing these seizures during the semester, thinking I was just suffering from exhaustion, and went undiagnosed until classes were over. This volatile combination of events became my final straw and I knew at that point it was time to step back and get my life under control before I could even think about continuing on with my…

In my years at River Hill High School, I have always exerted my utmost effort to maintain a high level of scholarship. My freshman year, I received a 4.0 unweighted GPA in every single quarter, and ended the year with a 4.79 weighted GPA. In my sophomore year, I received a 4.93 weighted GPA, and again a 4.0 unweighted. I always try to challenge myself by choosing difficult classes. Last year, I took three Advanced Placement courses, three GT courses, and one honors course. This year, I am taking six Advanced Placement courses, along with one honors. I believe that consistent and meaningful learning is crucial to a great future. Through good…

Ever since high school, I have struggled with school. After graduating high school, I graduated with a 1.7 GPA. I always knew I was an average student, so I accepted my GPA proudly. However after entering college, everything changed. I knew everything was going to be more difficult and demanding. Beyond all the hardships of academics, I was also going to have to pay for all of education by myself, because my parents could not afford it. This adversity made it extremely difficult for me to decide if I wanted to continue my education and enter college. However, despite my finical struggle I decide to continue my education and apply for college. I applied to Rockland Community College, where I wanted to work on increasing my GPA.…

I entered school in August of 2009 and did not focus on my studies. After just one year my GPA was a 1.376, because I did not have the drive that I had in high school to succeed. After a couple of years away from Texas Christian University, while attending a 2-year college, I realized what I wanted to do with my life, sparking the motivation I had been searching for. I then decided to return to TCU and fix my awful GPA, which I managed to do with hard work, determination, and appropriate priorities. After one year of nonstop studying and focus, I have managed to raise my GPA to a 2.777, removing myself from academic probation and qualifying for opportunities I was not eligible before. This was difficult for me because I also work part-time…

Today I received a message in my student email about my academic progress. I was denied Financial Aid due to my poor academic performance my 2015-2016 semester at Mesa Community College. The reason for not meeting academic requirements the previous semester was because of my lack of organization with working, sports, and studying. I take full responsibility in not putting my academics before sports and work leading me to write this letter. I truly believed I could juggle working 20 hours a week as a swim instructor and also be a student-athlete for Mesa Community College while maintaining strong grades. I soon found myself struggling in classes and doing poorly on exams because I was not using my time correctly and pushing my school work to the side. In high school I worked as a swim instructor and ran cross country as I am now, I put little effort into studying and did what I had to do to get by. Those poor habits followed me into college and are now backfiring with proof through my GPA.…

I acknowledge, I had a really hard time last semester, and my grades suffered as a result. I don't want to make excuses for my horrible college performance, but I want to explain the circumstances. I knew that working four different jobs would hinder me from doing well in school in my previous semesters. They required a lot of me, but I needed to earn enough money to pay for my tuition at school as I do not qualify for financial aid as a non-citizen student. I thought I would be able to handle the amount of work load and I still think I could have, but I managed my time poorly. Living in America for a long period of time before I was a teenager with no work permit or permission to travel back home (prior to the deferred action law that was passed recently which allows me to now work) took a toll on my mind. After multiple evictions and not being able to afford tuition or feeling like I would amount to…

In May of 2007 I enrolled in ITT Technical Institute with every intention on graduating with an AAS in Computer Drafting and Design. I successfully completed my first semester with a 4.0GPA and perfect attendance. About 2 to 3 weeks into my second semester my mother became very ill unto death (September 16th, 2007). The demands from my mother’s illness took a major toll on me emotionally and I was unable to adequately focus on my academics. My mother was a single parent and I was an only child and because I lived with her and had no other means of residence I felt reluctant to stop attending school and start working.…

Personally, I believe that my high school transcript and test scores are not a complete accurate reflection of my potential intellectual growth. My high school transcript does show the hard work and dedication I have put into my classes in order to get good grades but overall, as a person it only portrays that part of me. The wisdom and knowledge I have gained outside of school, that cannot be taught to me in school, is not shown based on my grades. Schools are very centralized around tests and tests do not show or prove all that I know. I also do not do the best of my ability on tests, especially when they are strictly timed and multiple choice. The tests that I do my best on, are the ones that are open ended so I can show what I really know…

Through out my life I have always been an average student, never excelling in anything particular due to lack of enthusiasm. I would always get good test grades but neglect asigned projects and papers. I was satisfied getting by every year with a barely passing grade and continuing on. Every now and then I would get a project that would peak my intrest and do well on it surprising my peers and teachers, but that was it, it was a rare and non-consistent action. With each passing year my eagerness faded and my laziness surpassed expectations. So much so that my senior year I decided that I wasn't even going to attempt to pass, I stopped going to school and proceeded to drop out despite objections from my mom. I eased her worries with empty promises of continuing school once I got my GED. I spent the last three months of what would have completed my senior year, working and living each day with no plan and no goals. Belive it or not my only regret at the time was not being able to play volleyball in the fall. My friends who were still in school wanted me to come and see them graduate, I said yes without hesitation.…
