Being a High School Student and Working Part Time
There has been an argument stating whether students should be able to maintain a part time job. There are many students in today’s society that are doing it, but that does not make it right or wrong. Stating which one is right or which one is wrong would be irrelevant to others, seeing how it would be just an opinion and not scientifically proven. This argument is a complex issue with many different opposing view-points.
The first article ,by Thomas Lu, gives encouragement that students should work and also go to school. It states that as long as the student is not in any extra curricular activities in school then they should work. The article gave great reasoning for why the students should work. It states that it would be beneficial in the long run, because it will teach students how to spend their money wisely and also teach them how to save. the article implies that being a student and working helps you manage your time and use your free time in a productive way as opposed to a student that’s not working and watching television all day.
The article states that students should only be working part-time and should be able to maintain his/her grades. Thomas Lu states that if students work while they are in school then the are less dependent on their parents and loans; he states that since they are working they would be able to save up and go to a university. Working part-time while still in school will help you build your resume and experience different work settings. Lu says that it will help students to determine their strengths and weaknesses, which allows them to work on their weaknesses and capitalize their strengths. Lu claims that this will help students in the long run by helping them to gain skills in resume writing, interviews, and getting to know how it feels to work.
