When you think of high school, what do you think of? Long dragged-out classes and competitive sports, right? Sports are very important for many students, it teaches many things like leadership and teamwork. Playing in school sports can make you healthy and keep your body in a healthy shape. It teaches self-discipline and it helps keep kids healthy. No matter what sport it is from American football to Lacrosse to soccer it can help any student succeed in many different ways. 55.5% of students play sports so if there wasn’t any sports what would those 55.5% of students do with their free time.
A reason I think schools should have competitive sports is because it helps build teamwork and you learn to collaborate with more kids. Sports aren't just about having fun but there is also a social aspect. Along with building teamwork skills, it also builds trust and

“The data revealed that students involved in sports had significantly higher rates of exercise, milk consumption, and a healthy self-image and had significantly lower odds for emotional distress, suicidal behavior, family substance abuse and physical and sexual victimization than students not involved in sports.”(The Case for High School Activities). Sports help kids from staying in shape and getting in shape. It also helps make students better themselves and make them feel better.
Although most evidence points towards having school sports, there is also opposing thoughts such as students being hurt while playing. Students risk getting injured anytime they go on the court or field. Some of the most common injuries are Concussions, ACL tear, and other knee involved injuries. Even though this is the case school sports offer equipment to help prevent injuries. Also students know the risk of being injured but they do it anyway because they like to play.
