The majority of these few chapters took place in Central-North High school. When Connor, Risa, and Lev arrive at the school, they make a plan to go hide in the girl’s washroom until the lunch break bell rings. After a few hours, the bell finally rings and the three of them are about to leave when Connor and Risa realize Lev has left his stall. Yet, Connor and Risa don’t know that Lev had an escape plan to leave when the bell rings since he doesn’t trust them. When Lev escaped the washroom, he went to the office and told them about two unwinds hiding in the girl's washroom. The police came right away and Lev regretted what he did because he thought the police were going to arrest Connor and Risa. Having those thoughts running through his head, Lev sneaked out of the office and pulled the fire alarm for a distraction to the police. …show more content…
A teacher hears a baby’s cry and walks into the classroom Connor and Risa are hiding in. They ask the teacher for help, she agrees to help them and takes the baby while telling Connor and Risa to go outside like the other students. Once outside, Connor and Risa start clapping which indicates they are young terrorists in the book. All the students cause a commotion and start running away from them. The teacher from before goes to them and hands over the baby telling them to go a store in which the owner will help them. Hearing that, Connor and Risa with the baby start running to the store the teacher mentioned. While they are running away, Lev also runs away and finds a boy around his age named Cyrus. Cy is heading to Joplin, Southeast Missouri since he got unwound and is trying to find the boy he got a body part from. Lev has split up from Connor and Risa and might never find them again. On the other hand, Connor and Risa have escaped from the school and are now heading to a destination where they know they’ll be

Lastly, chapter 14 talks about the importance of overcoming resistance. An example that is giving is the following “Despite only a single word of difference, the effect of the two types of signs was dramatically one-sided. The sign that reminded the doctors to protect themselves had no effect on soap and gel use. But the one reminding them to protect their patients increased usage by 45 percent” (Cialdini, 2016). This example can be applied to Agrobionsa’s laboratories. Employees need to wear a face mask among other protection wear to avoid contaminating the products. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. The main character of the novel, Olivia, has not had a steady home environment as she has been shifted to many different foster homes. Although, she is a brilliant student when she is there. Olivia gets arrested for forging some stolen checks and then gets sent to jail. Detention center was her next stop because her foster mom said she was too much work. Ultimately, Olivia serves her time and goes to college, where she is very successful. Olivia’s story is an example of how Corwin structures his book. He uses anecdotes to give readers insight into the students lives. In addition, he organizes the novel into different times of the year so the readers can follow the students in chronological order. Corwin is effective using this strategy because it makes the readers feel apart of the story. The sequencing the novel by seasons and semesters gives readers the feeling that they are apart of the high school. Another strategy Corwin uses is portraying multiple Americas. He does this by showing us the struggle filled lives of most students and the fortunate lives of the others. For example, Toya has to overcome being a teen mother while still getting an education whereas Curt is raised by a single mother, but in Los Angeles’ wealthiest black community. Corwin…

The book indicates that it takes place in the midst of an unspecified nuclear war. Some of the marooned characters are ordinary students, while others arrive as a musical choir under an established leader. Most (with the exception of the choirboys) appear never to have encountered one another before. The book portrays their descent into savagery; left to themselves in a paradisiacal country, far from modern civilisation, the well-educated children regress to a primitive state.…

The book I chose to read was “When I Say No, I Feel Guilty” by Manuel J. Smith. The first thing to stand out to me in this book was it seemed a little outdated. Even though the writing style and the examples appeared to be from a different era, I was still able to see how different points were relevant today and to me personally. This title screamed my name when I was browsing the list of choices because no matter what I am saying no to, I always feel guilty.…
