High Low Difference POW
Problem Statement: The POW starts off with the random 3-digit number 473 and number the problem says to arrange the digits from largest to smallest, which is 743. Then arrange the digits from smallest to largest, which is 347. The arrangement of the digits from least to greatest is subtracted from the arrangement of those same digits from greatest to least. The problem we ultimately end up doing is 473-347 and the difference is 396. The problem asks the students to continue the process of choosing a number, arranging its digits so the lowest arrangement of the digits is subtracted from the highest arrangement of the digits. The problem also asks the readers to test out the steps using 3, 4, 5, 6 and so forth and explain what they discover.

Continuing with the steps I noticed that the digits 9, 4, and 5 repeating. I tried a different 3 digit number and the same digits kept repeating. I continued with 4, 5, 6, 7 digit numbers to see if I could find other patterns. For 4 digit numbers 1, 4, 6, and 7 continued to repeat. In 5 digit numbers, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 repeated. For 6 digits, 0, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8 repeated. And lastly for 7 digits, 2, 2, 4,5,6,8 and 9 repeated. I found that all of the repeating digits for 4 added up to 18, for 5 digit numbers the repeating numbers added up to 27 and for 7 digits the numbers repeating at up to 36. I saw that a pattern occurred with the sum of the digits because the sum increased by 9.18+9 is 27 and 27+9 is 36. We can infer that the sum of the 8 digits will be 45 based on the

In this POW write-up, I am trying to prove that there can be only one solution to this problem, and demonstrate and corroborate that all solutions work and are credible. What the problem of the week is asking is that the number that you put in the boxes 0-4 is the number of numbers in the whole 5-digit number. For example, if you put zero in the “one” box, you would be indicating that there is zero ones in the number. Another example is if you put a two in the “three” box. This would indicate that there are two threes in the whole 5-digit number. I was asked to find solutions where are the numbers would work in heir perspective boxes. From there I started working on the problem that would fit this criterion.…

    Pow 6 Linear Nim Analysis

For this game of Linear Nim you draw 10 line marks on a piece of paper and two players take turns crossing off only 1, 2, or 3 marks per turn. The person who crosses off the last mark is the winner. Firstly what I did was play a few games with my Mom and what I realized right away was that if you stopped just before the last four dashes in the game then you would always win. Since you aren’t always guaranteed of being the one who can put these dashes on the sixth line then I had to think of a strategy. So I thought of a way to make it so I would be able to get the sixth dash as long as I started first. I found that starting with two lines crossed off would leave my mom with only one, two or three dashes that would give me the opportunity to get the sixth line no matter which number of lines she crossed off. I used this many times on her and it seemed to be undefeatable. When she went first and didn’t start with three I would try to get the six, which would make me win. Such as if she started with three then I would cross off three and I would get the six forcing her to lose.…

This problem of the week has a main gain goal set upon boxes. There are five boxes numbered one through zero. Underneath the boxes have the numbers written under them. In the boxes, there are numbers that should be entered in the boxes that all evenly works out. For instance, the number that you put in box zero must be the same as the number of zeros that were used. The same procedures apply when using other boxes. The same number cannot be used in the box, for example, a four cannot be placed in box four or the number two cannot be enlisted in box two. The same number is tolerable to be used more than once. The only exception is that no number higher than four can be expended. My goal for this POW is to corroborate and demonstrate that I have found all solutions and that all solutions work and is credible.…

Problem Statement: The Free Thinkers football league does things differently. They score their games differently than everyone else.
