heros journey
Hero’s Journey in Sponge Bob: The Movie Throughout history people have shared stories. A very popular story that is shared by almost all cultures around the world today is The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey is present in many books and movies we see today. We see it in adult and children’s movies alike. One famous children’s movie where The Hero’s Journey is seen in is SpongeBob: The Movie. SpongeBob is the obvious example of a hero throughout Sponge Bob: The Movie. SpongeBob’s Hero Journey began when Mr. Crabs was accused of stealing King Neptune’s crown. SpongeBob SquarePants offered to go on the dangerous quest to get back King Neptune’s royal crown from Shell City in order to prove to the citizens of Bikini Bottom that he was not a kid and save Mr. Crabs’ life. SpongeBob didn’t refuse the call to action like many hero’s’ because he knew that even though Mr. Crabs didn’t promote him Mr. Crabs still didn’t deserve to die for something he didn’t do. Throughout the adventure SpongeBob had two main supernatural aids, Mindy and Patrick. Mindy was King Neptune’s daughter and helped SpongeBob on his journey because she didn’t agree with the way her father ruled the animals in the sea. She made sure that SpongeBob knew how difficult what he was about to do was and gave him a special bag of winds, that would help him get home, that she stole from her father, much like the bag of winds that Odysseus got from King Aleous in The Odyssey. Patrick helped SpongeBob by going on the adventure with him because he was SpongeBob’s best friend. Patrick supported SpongeBob and helped him overcome many obstacles in this Hero’s Journey. At one point Patrick and SpongeBob had to stop and fill up their vehicle, they got to the first threshold where they are warned once again about how dangerous it would be to continue on the journey. They ignored the two workers and crossed the county line. This was considered the first threshold because neither of them had ever left

Throughout human history, great heroes have been created to triumph over man’s struggles. Most every culture has, in the past, told their own tales of heroes and their trials. These champions, while spread across our world and its ages, share some key characteristics with each other. This formulaic composition of heroes, while it can deviate, has stayed true since the dawn of history. This remains true with the Finnish hero god, Vainamoinen. A hero is a very popular title for those who rescue or save others so to speak. What most people do not know is that there is a way to determine whether characters are true heroes or not and that is through “A Guide to Joseph Cambell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces” (Vogler). Christopher Vogler lays out twelve stages of a hero’s journey, which, if a hero completes them all, then he/she successfully fulfills the archetype and in this instance, Theseus from “Theseus” and Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” do. In “The Little Mermaid”, Ariel goes on a journey in which she finds true love and completes numerous obstacles while doing so, and in “Theseus”, Theseus travels throughout the Greek region and in turn, saves the woman from being killed by…

A hero can be a father who is struggling to put food on the table for his family and pay the bills, but works two or three jobs, and inspires his son or daughter to work hard. A great example of a story like this, was written by Kathi Rose Vancouver. She says that her dad cared for the wounded during Iwo Jima. After the war he returned home, but struggled to find work. He had to work two to three jobs, for seven days a week, sometimes, to help his family get enough money. He was called out in the middle of the night to work, and would get very little sleep most nights. Even with all his hard work, he still would go to all his kids…

Allison Salazar 4/6/13 English 363 Paper 2 Harry Potter: A Hero’s Journey Joseph Campbell’s monomyth of The Hero’s Journey is just a basic pattern about how a hero goes about their journey. There are three main categories which include: the departure, trials and victories of initiation, and return and reintegration into society. Each of these main categories includes seventeen subcategories that go more in depth about the journey. All of the Harry Potter movies could apply to Joseph Campbell’s monomyth of the hero’s journey.
