Heroes Are Ordinary People
“Heroes are ordinary people, they just have the endurance to go one moment more”. Anybody can be a hero. The difference is a hero has the guts and determination to go into the chaotic situation and save the day even if that means risking their own life. Heroes are willing to do incredible things and they never think of going back and are not worrying about themselves. Ordinary people may want to save the world and make it a better place, but heroes are the ones who take action and go the extra mile, heroes are devoted for a cause to help, and lastly they aren’t selfless and putting others in front of themselves. Heroes are known for going above and beyond the call of duty and being devoted to a cause. Heros are never told what to do, but when …show more content…
A great example was Abraham Lincoln who was not worried about his generation but instead focused on the fate for the United States of America which is one of the reasons why he is a greatly recognized president. “He is dead… not for himself, not fHeroes are selfless, and concerned about others more than themselves. A great example is Welles Crowther who lost his life on 9/11 because he was selfless and helped others escape while he went back up to save others. His dad said, “He loved helping people”(Man in The Red Bandana) it was just in the blood of Welles Crowther to help others ever since he was 16 and joined as a junior firefighter. Another example of heroes being selfless is a soldier in Afghanistan named Tristan Eugene Segers whose leg got torn off after his vehicle exploded by a homemade bomb. He said, after his injury occurred, “I didn't do anything special, but if the progress I have made motivates another veteran to or us, but for all the people in the upcoming generations until time shall be no more”(Sermon) which was a great quote to show how much he cared not for himself but for the next upcoming generations. Another example are the teachers in the Sandy Hook who saved their kids by fighting back a crazy shooter. A teacher known as Ted Verga was told to leave out the school because of the gunfire going off but then as witnesses described it he “turned back to save his fellow instructors.” he later told the news that he didn't want to be told that all of his instructors were dead and for him that was not going to be in his mind for the future and decided to save 3 people that day. Certain people have a special attribute to go the extra mile, those people are a key detail to heroism. Heroes don’t like being called a hero, they just do what they have to do for their own reason without being told. At the end of the day they are the ones who get the credit for

People read and watch things about heroes all the time because in the deepest reaches of their mind they aspire to be among their ranks. The problem with the average person’s desire to be a hero is that they don’t truly know what a hero is. A hero is able to bounce back from a defeat that would stop any normal man in their tracks, they are inspirational, they gain followers and believers just by doing what they think is right, and they don’t have to be strong, but have to be able to take mental punishment like no other.…

These actions of heroism don't just occur in literature. Many people have shown acts of heroism. For example Robin Emmons, a woman who had the desire to help bring healthy foods to low income communities, to improve the health of the people in those areas. After experiencing her brother grow borderline diabetic, due to a lack of accessible healthy foods in his transitional homing, she became inspired to help others in need (Geil 1). What she did next was unthinkably selfless; she quit her job and dug up one-fourth of her backyard. She started growing healthy, easily accessible food for people in need. Eventually, she started a non profit organization that delivers healthy foods to people in need, called “Sow much Grod” (Geil 2). Her organization…

Throughout history, there have been an incalculable number of heroes; that can be through reality or fictitious. From viewing the clips from this assignments and reading various articles regarding heroism, there are multiple aspects that determine exactly what a hero should be. In regards to the Spiderman video, Aunt May explains that a hero is someone that is courageous, self-sacrificing, and sets examples for others. Likewise, an article I read describes a hero as someone who is courageous, selfless, humble, patient, and caring. In my opinion, a hero is an individual who cares more about the life of others than themselves; they would do anything in their power to protect others as well as the world around them.…

A hero in the real world functions by persevering and sacrificing for the better. For instance, a real-life hero is a firefighter. They go out into dangerous fires to save the lives of thousands of people and animals. Heroism and heroes are two things that no matter what, will always be around, people will always admire heroes, and wish they could be them. While there is an endless supply of heroes from the beginning of time, there are only a few definitions, yet over time that definition has changed to an extent. Dictionary.reference.com defines hero as: “A man of distinguished courage of ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.” Campbell’s definition, “someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself… The hero performs a courageous act in battle and saves lives,” varies quite a bit from the twenty first century definition. In both Joseph Campbell’s definition and dictionary.com’s definition, several characteristics of heroes are laid out before us: courageousness, dedication, and selflessness. These can be considered the three pillars of heroism; these characteristics add character and depth to a hero, other than somebody who performed a glorious act. Courage, the biggest pillar, are the building blocks of a hero, without courage, you simply cannot be an admired hero. Courage allows you…

A hero never does heroic actions just so people recognize and praise them. Many heroes are not even recognized for their actions, but that doesn’t stop them from continuing and doing the right things. For example, soldiers who are constantly fighting for our country. Not every single one of them end up on the news, or trend on twitter, but they don’t stop fighting for our country because of that. They know it is the right thing so therefore they will continue doing it, praised or not. As Tom Hanks said, “A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.” Also a hero is not someone who gives up because of one obstacle. A hero is an individual who keeps going even in spite of the immense obstacle. For instance, in the poem, ‘A Man’, the poet describes a soldier who loses his arm while fighting for his country. In the beginning of her poem, she describes the soldier’s physical limitations from losing his arm, yet the soldier speaks of compensating for his physical disability with enthusiasm, “He set himself to do everything with twice as much enthusiasm. And where the arm had been torn away a wing grew” (Line 15). The first part dwells on the thought he can only do half of everything, such as a harvest, either tune or play an accompaniment on a piano, banging on a door, and holding his…

The little things people do is important to someone else. Firefighters save people everyday in their home. Police officers can arrest the people who want to injure people. And Soldiers, they fight for our country, even if it means dying. Everyone's a hero, in everyone's opinion.…

A hero can make a difference in a small, medium, or large way. Some say that you can’t be a hero until you do a difficult or large task to prove that you are one. The truth is, the world is filled with heroes who became one by one simple task. Like your parents, city workers, or many other citizens. This is why selflessness is another important factor in what it means to be a hero. A hero takes action for the purpose of helping others, without hidden motives or personal agendas. Heroes are willing to forget about their own needs when faced with the needs of others. One such example of selflessness is found in the story of Victoria Soto. The schoolteacher was only 27 years old when she gave her life trying to shield her young students during the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Connecticut. This action shows selflessness in its most pure form, completely abandoning concern for oneself in the process of helping, or in this case saving, others. While sacrificing ones life to save another’s is an extreme example of this, it can also be found in the actions of the everyday heroes that surround us. A working single mother is an example of a selfless hero that we are surrounded by in our day-to-day life. While she isn’t literally giving her life for anyone, a single mother who has to work long hours and sacrifice sleep and other wants to provide for her children is displaying selflessness and most certainly establishing herself as a hero to her children and those around her. “A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply cares.” – Debi…
