Helmets
I think all people should be required to wear helmets no matter their age. It is very dangerous to not wear one, for many reasons. A helmet will protect your head from hard hits that you will encounter when you fall off your motorcycle, bike, scooter, etc. Wearing a helmet will save you from getting a mangled face. Having you come home is a better feeling then you going home to a grave. Since some people feel that they are too cool to wear a helmet, let me advise you that having an attitude like that is not smart. When you wear this helmet it offers you protection from head injuries that occur when you fall. Another advantage to wearing your helmet is that it also can protect your eyes and face from flying rocks and other debris. Not to mention all the bugs that will hit your face and get in your eyes. To prove to you that helmets work and you will be cool wearing one, I will tell you about the deaths that occurred before an after the helmet law was put in to effect in 1992. The law appears to have lead to more than one-third decrease in the number of bicycle deaths. Of the 212 overall deaths in New York, in 1999, 60% occurred in the pre law period and nearly 40% occurred afterwards. In contrast the percent of bicyclists wearing helmets at the time of a fatal crash jumped from roughly 25% in the pre-law period to 85.5 % in the post law period, the investigators found. During both pre-law and post-law periods, however, bicyclists who wore helmets were 70% less likely to suffer a traumatic brain injury, then were their peers that did not use helmets, study findings indicate. Now think about wearing a helmet the next time you go on a bike ride, or ride a scooter, skateboard, or decide to go rollerblading. Is it safe? Is it likely you will get injured? Think about your decision before you just decide your to cool to wear a helmet. There are actually really cool designs that helmet companies produce, where it will match the color

    Football helmet

The average tackle football player has a natural tendency to experience fear and tension when thinking about the heavy rate of concussion injuries within the sport. In response to the violently physical nature of the game, Riddell Sports has produced a helmet that provides the best defense to worries and consequences of a concussion. The Riddell Revolution 360 football helmet has been constructed by engineers to protect the mental processes and safety of players. As a football player myself, I can think of no better alternative for head trauma prevention than this helmet. Riddell takes into account and states that players sustain roughly 950 impacts to the head over the course of a season. As a result of this, the helmet places a strong emphasis on protection of the most impacted part of the head, the front. Patented in 2012, HIT technology was established by Riddell in their experiment labs to measure the severity and location of head impacts from all directions. This technology proves that detrimental impact to the brain can go unnoticed or misunderstood, and use it to prevent future mental problems for players. This product changes the way participants feel comfortable and confident on the playing field more than ever before. The technology that is added includes a new carbon steel facemask that flexes in reaction to impact. Also added to the helmet was a new face frame structure which is made up of continuous hexagonal shaped padding on the interior that shapes to players heads for a custom and tight fit. This is important for reducing the amount of force to the head, which will allow the sport to be more commonly tolerated by everyone interested. With the rise of cognitive damage in football due to head trauma, parents are more hesitant than ever to allow their children play the game at a young age. However, parents can be assured that the expanded technology in the Riddell 360 will protect their children like never before.…

Taking that into consideration, I refuse to allow my son to play a contact sport where helmets are, “not designed and tested for how well they can protect your children against concussions…”(David Camarillo:Why Helmets Don’t Prevent Concussions - and What Might Happen). Bearing in mind that football players willingly go out on the field to slam heads for cheers and points, I would rather see my son in the stands than on the field taking hits that could perhaps lead to a concussion or even cost him his life.…

Concussions, not a great experience for anyone, but could everyone be more protected from concussions if hockey helmets were made safer? Scientists are working hard to test top-brand hockey helmets, such as Bauer and CCM, to see how much power it takes to cause a concussion on each helmet and if scientists figure this out, hockey helmets could be made to almost prevent concussions. If hockey helmets were made safer, concussions would be less common, which would cause more hockey players to continue playing hockey. Hockey helmets being made safer have definite advantages for youth hockey players, as well as pro hockey players.…

Also the laws restricting riders from federal, public, and private lands in certain areas need to be changed. “President Nixon in 1972 issued an executive order requiring federal land managers to minimize environmental damage and social conflict by designating trails acceptable for off-road use”(Clayton 1). Furthermore, whenever riding it should always be required to ride with an approved helmet - approved helmets are necessary because some helmets can have problems and be faulty so this way riders have a lower risk of being hurt in the head - on because there are so many injuries to the head from ORVs because a lot of riders don’t wear helmets. “A second report, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, looked at emergency department visits at hospitals across the country. It found that one in 10 people younger than 20 hurt on ATVs who went to hospitals had traumatic brain injuries”(ATV 1) and this just shows that riders need to wear a helmet as part of the federal laws if they wanna operate these…

“They found that four types of soccer headgear provided no measurable protection at ball speeds of 20 and 26 mph, common in soccer heading” (“Healthline” 1). Kids under the age of 12 should be able to head the ball also, soccer is a contact sport and injuries occur often. Kids under the age of 14 are at a higher risk of getting a concussion then a highschool student is. Even thought it would decrease the number of concussions by a lot, soccer clubs should allow kids to head the ball again because later on in life if they play soccer, then they will not know how to head the ball, and even when people wear a hat when it is cold they have trouble heading the ball.…
