Hegemony In The Taming Of Shrew
In the past men took of control over women in the Taming of Shrew we see a women out of society norms. Katherina was a women before her time questioning all men and having her only voice. Making her something to be challenge by all men. Based on my observation hegemony the act of having dominance, power over someone that they would do anything out of the norms. Because Lucentio and Hortensio’s wife had no fear or respect over them they had no hegemonic authority. On the hand since Petruchio and Katherina had different conflict such as Petruchio telling Katherina that moon is sun this argument show the hegemony in Katherina later be submission showing fear authority which made her change her whole views and agree with Petruchio saying

    Petruchio’s soliloquy from (2.1.164) to (2.1.176) suggests he is confident about his “taming” methods as we are further informed about the ways he will use to “woo her (Kate) with some spirit”. Petruchio expects Kate to listen to him and submit. The “wooing” scene between Petruchio and Kate in Act 2 is intended to be comical, the playful and witty repetition of Kate’s name and sexual puns such as “What, with my tongue in your tale?” that Petruchio makes, suggests this. We also know that Petruchio outperforms Kate on verbal acuity and wit.
