Hebda And Czar Definition Of Nursing Informatics

When asking a colleague outside of this course what is their definition of healthcare informatics, the first one stated that nursing informatics is a statistic of information used to obtain data regarding infection control. My second colleague stated that it is research in ways to improve infection control as well as get the statistics in the hospital setting, being able to use technology to improve our nursing care. The similarities both colleague had in their responses was they both related health informatics to collection of data regarding infection control. The differences both colleagues had in their responses was one of the nurse related it to health informatics improving work environment, as related to being educated to provide quality control to improve quality care. Hebda and Czar definition of health informatics is, “broadly defined as the use of information and computer technology to support all aspects of nursing practice, including direct delivery of care, administration, education, and research.
The definition of nursing informatics is evolving as advances occur in nursing practice and technology.” Compared to the definition by Hebda and Czar both response was close to their definition, except the book is more detailed and defined regarding health
