Healthcare Knowledge Management (HKM) can be described as “the systematic creation, modeling, sharing, operationalization and translation of healthcare knowledge to improve the quality of patient care” (Abidi, 2008, p. 2). HKM provides a healthcare organization (HCO) with not only information, but guidance and experience, for the purpose of decision support and effective action. Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) play a key role in HKM by facilitating the creation, translation, sharing, and operationalization of knowledge.
