1.Give two(2) definitions of Health and critique them.(10 mark)
1)Health is a broad concept which can embody a huge range of meanings. The word “health” is derived from the old English word for heal (hael) which means “whole” showing that health concerns the whole person and his or her integrity, soundness. Health is holistic and include different dimensions, holistic health means taking account of the separate influences and interaction of these dimensions. THe different dimensions physical, mental, social, sexual, spiritual, emotional.

2) Health is the prevention treatment and management of illness and the prevention of mental and physical well-being through the services offered by the medical and allied health professions. Critics argue that the definition of health is utopian, inflexible and unrealistic. The word “complete” makes it highly unlikely that anyone be healthy for a reasonable period of time, It appears that a state of complete physical mental and social well-being corresponds more to happiness than to health. The word “health” and “happiness” designate distinct life experience, whose relationship is neither fixed non constant failure to distinguish in happiness, however minimal, may come to be perceived as a health problem.

Health Promotion is the promotion of healthy ideas and concepts to motivate individuals to adopt healthy behaviours. Health promotion represents a comprehension social and political process, it not only embraces actions directed at strengthening the skills and capabilities of individuals but also directed towards changing social, environmental and economical condition so as to alleviate their impact on public and health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over the determinants of health and thereby improve their health.
