Community Service Experience Overall, community service is paying back to people and animals that are in need. That is why it is necessary for the people that are able to participate do. Not only should people do it because they have to, they should want to. I have learned this personally through my community service experiences. By participating in community service it has allowed me to change as a person and look at life differently. In the beginning I was not enthusiastic about volunteering, but afterwards it made me feel good about myself. There are many benefits of volunteering like, doing helpful things of your interest, interacting with family and friends, and receiving more knowledge about things you didn’t know. There are many aspects of community service that are not blatantly shown. The organization that I volunteered for is called the No Homeless Pets Association; this organization was well organized and helped a lot of animals. The reason I chose this event was because it had to do with animals and it seemed to be the most genuine. These are key points in choosing, if the website seems shady or fake then that would make me not want to chose them. Also I chose the No Homeless Pets was because I have a strong connection with pets, I love my dog very much and I wouldn’t want her to ever be hungry. This motivated me into choosing them. Whenever I was reading their website I was expecting to be comforting pets in need and helping them find a home. That seemed to me like a good way to spend five hours on a Saturday. From the website it said “we provide about a one month supply of cat or dog food for up to 4 dogs and 5 cats per household, for those who qualify” (No Hungry), this gave me a better understanding of what I was actually going to be doing. This showed the generosity of the shelter and assured me that they were good people. Even though in my past I have not done any community service of

The second organization that I had the opportunity to volunteer for is Goodwill Rescue mission. They created this organization in 1896. Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Sutherland, the purpose of the organization moved from being a struggling institution to one with a nationwide reputation. They shared the love of God in Christ by providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and instruction for the poor and the homeless in Newark. According to Goodwill Rescue mission, they affiliate with helping the individuals directly rather than send them someplace else to fend for themselves. The program is also working with some of these individuals to get them back on their feet to fend for themselves. They have to go through programs if any of them…

The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…

I volunteered at Texas Humane Heroes, a local animal welfare organization that gives a homeless dog or cat a chance of finding home. It is a nonprofit organization that benefits from the involvement of volunteers. This was a very unique experience because I got to work with a lot of different volunteers and staff members. There were different volunteering opportunities from foster volunteering to helping out around the place. I helped around the place with other volunteers. We cleaned the dog and cat cages and washed their bowls. It wasn’t fun to pick up their waste, but we got to play with the puppies and the kittens. We also had to greet customers and inform them about the cats and the dogs that they had up there. In the afternoon, we had to walk the dogs. So many volunteers and I, took the dogs out.…

But that changed once I started to know other people’s situations. Realizing what the people who I was helping went through helped me have a change of heart. It made me care about others and understand how they felt.…

Community service is what makes the society much more joyful to live in. Some think community service is painful and they are only doing it because they are forced to and the need it to pass their high school, well I have a different opinion and I would like to share it. Community service can be really joyful because what goes around comes around meaning: the fact that I help someone I will get it back doesn't matter if it's in a day two months or forty years. What I am trying to say is that we shouldn't take community service as a punishment but more as an achievement.…

Overall, I thought that this was a great opportunity to get involved with the community and also something that happens many times a week so it would be easy to make a habit out of it. It is also a great example of how a little help goes a long way when you approach it as an opportunity rather than forced charity work. The soup kitchen is a great cause to help with that allows you to help many people that need it and may also be a great way to meet other people who are interested in helping the community.…
