Having a part-time job
Having a Part-Time Job

I’m going to tell you about having a part-time job, and what’s positive and negative about having a part-time job. I’m also going to tell you about my own experiences and opinions. You may have parents who encourage you to get a job and make your own money, so you don’t have to ask them every time you need or want something. But is it really that good for everyone to have a part-time job?
First of all I want to discuss the positive aspects of having a part-time job. And the main aspect is of course money. Every teenager both wants and need some money. Having a part-time job is then very good. You may need it for school supplies, clothes and other stuff you need, and of course something you want. When you earn your own money, you can spend it the way you want. But not exactly the way you want though. You need to think a bit about the future. You can save them until you move away from home, or when you’re going to take your license and buy a car. Not everybody have parents who can provide for everything, so having a part-time job and make your own money will be good for you. You will then have all the things you need, that your parents maybe can’t give you. Me for an instance, I’m trying to save the money I earn for when I’m going to London. I also have a certain budget I have to proceed to, even though I sometimes use more than I should.
It will also look good on your CV, when you are going to search for other and more important jobs. It will then be paying for you later in life. It depends on what kind of part-time job you had, but it will always look good with some extra work, so they know you are qualified and that you’re able to work. You will also get a lot of experience. You learn to be more responsible, you learn more about economy and more about the craft you’re working in.
On the other hand it’s also something negative about having a part-time job. It can affect your grades and you in school. If you work too much, it will be

All of the positives about having a part-time job have one big caveat. Students cannot usually be employed more than 20 hours per week or their grades begin to suffer, they do less homework, and they are more likely to drop out (Gisler & Eberts, 2016). Your grades could suffer more if you were without a job than if you had a job during school. The busier you are, the more focused you become. Working really makes you more structured; you have a lot of things to do in a short amount of time, so it’s important to keep up with it all (Laskowski, 2009). So, if they get paid for grades and don’t get a job because you don’t have to, you won’t be structured as if you had a…

This essay brought up a point that I myself have never thought of before. I’ve worked multiple part-time jobs since my freshman year of high school and have continued to hold a job through my time in college thus far. I disagree with the author in his theory that the part-time jobs of today turn students into robots and that the skills gained from them have completely changed over time. Holding a job throughout high school has strengthened my time management skills and allowed me to be able to live more independently; being that I’m not always relying on my parents for money. It has also allowed me to pay for my college tuition. While not everyone is the same, I know a lot of students who work to pay for their education and I know there’s also kids out there who work to pay for their wild lifestyle.…

Department of Labor, 2000). Furthermore, even though most teens don’t have any financial responsibility of house, car payments and health insurance to worry about-because parents cover that, there are many potential benefits for them having a part-time job. Having a pay check will also help them learn money management skills, and with parents allowing them to go thru overspending with not a practical purchase, this too can help them think twice next time they want to overspend. It’s better to learn when young instead of in adulthood. It can also help them stay out of trouble with friends or avoid getting into any dangerous situations if they must go to work the next morning. Many people praise part-time work saying it contributes to the transition from childhood to adulthood. When I was sixteen years old I thought my first job was going to be at Mc Donald’s or some type of fast food restaurant. My mother wasn’t really the type that forced me to work at a younger age. Usually a lot of teenagers don’t work until seventeen or eighteen years old. Some times when I was a child I always wanted to be more responsible by doing things on my own, working, and driving, but at sixteen what can I be responsible at. As a young teenager I always looked at job postings. For example I would see chef jobs, office jobs and retail. Sometimes I would look at them just for the fun of it just to see what type of work that was offered in the bay area. Were I m from a lot of jobs don’t exist, and my community is so small that it didn’t create jobs for families. For example a lot of the good jobs like banks, store managers, and high end jobs were towards Oakland and San Francisco. When I was fifteen I heard about this program that helps younger teenagers find summer jobs, and it was something that sparked my interest. When I was sixteen I experienced a piece of responsibility; First I had my own job which generated my own money, second the job was very fun, finally I had a lot of responsibilities at work at a young age.…

First, earning a little extra money can be that piece to ones puzzle causing a boost in their self-esteem. Depending on what college one decides to attend, it can mean a fairly hefty loan hovering above ones head. With a part-time job one could cut the loan in half making it easier to pay for tuition. Saving for the future is always a great idea and having a part-time job will put one in an “I used my own money to pay for/buy this” kind of attitude. It is a real downer constantly asking parents for money to do what they would like so it will help one be more independent and get a feel for what the real world is like.…
