Pat Donelson is a 67-year-old female who presented today with complaints of pain in her left lower calf. The pain started about 3-4 months ago as an “aching/cramping” pain that she described as mild in nature. She noticed the pain while walking and with adequate rest the pain subsides. Mrs. Donelson discontinued use of Lipitor because she thought it might be causing her leg pain. She also presented with complaints of recurrent headaches, a morning cough, and loss of hair on her effected leg. Mrs. Donelson has a history of periodic angina and heart palpitations; however, at the present time she is asymptomatic.…

The objective of this study was to observe and record the effects that exercise has on cardiovascular functions such as mean blood pressure, cardiac output, and total peripheral resistance by comparing each numerical function’s numerical data before and after exercise. Before exercise, the mean blood pressure (MPB) was 84.03 mmHg with a standard deviation of 10.3. After exercise, MBP was 92.19 with a standard deviation of 10.5. The cardiac output (CO) before exercise was 5.45 Liters/minute with a standard deviation of 0.98. After exercise, CO was 11.05 Liters/minute with a standard deviation of 2.54. Lastly, total peripheral resistance (TPR) before exercise was 15.87 with a standard deviation of 2.6 and after exercise the TPR was…
Concussions due to head or neck injuries are somewhat common, most individuals with mild injuries recover without incident, however a subgroup of people develop persistent post-concussive symptoms that often include headaches. Such post-traumatic headaches vary in exhibition and may progress to becoming chronic and in some cases debilitating to the point of taking one’s life to relieve the symptoms.…
Hypertension is a chronic medical condition where the pressure of blood in the arteries is elevated. Blood pressure is a measure of the force that blood pumps against the walls of the arteries, and will have two readings: the systolic pressure or the measure of the blood within the artery when the heart muscle is contracting, and the diastolic pressure or the pressure of the blood when the heart muscle is relaxing. It is read as systolic pressure over diastolic pressure. Hypertension is present when consistent readings are above 140 systolic over 90 diastolic. In hypertensive patients, usually both systolic and diastolic readings are both abnormally high. A normal blood pressure reading for an adult male would be under 120/80. Hypertension can be caused by many factors, and is considered a hereditary disease as well. This disease usually does not have one single identifiable cause because there are so many factors that can attribute to maintaining good cardio vascular health.…

Symptoms of high blood pressure? One of the most dangerous aspects of High blood pressure is that you may not know that you have it. In fact, nearly one-third of people who have high blood pressure don't know it. The only way to know if your blood pressure is high is through regular checkups. This is especially important if you have a close relative who has high blood pressure. If your blood pressure is extremely high, there may be certain symptoms to look out for, including headaches, fatigue or confusion, vision problems, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and irregular breathing. Hypertensive crisis is a term for hypertensive urgency and hypertensive emergency. These two conditions occur when blood pressure becomes very high, possibly causing organ damage. Hypertensive urgency occurs when blood pressure spikes blood pressure readings are 180/110 or higher, but there is no damage to the body's organs. Hypertensive emergency means blood pressure is so high that organ damage can occur. Blood pressure must be reduced immediately to prevent organ damage. This is done in an…
Finding out someone’s blood pressure is very important. Johannes Müller once said, “The discovery of blood pressure was more important than the discovery of blood.” Someone’s blood pressure could be high, and no one would know. The reason being is that a person with high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, will usually have no symptoms. High or low blood pressure cannot be detected without being measured. High blood pressure could cause heart attacks, strokes, or heart failure. Low blood pressure could also cause heart attacks, strokes, or kidney failure.…
High blood pressure (HBP) is a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.…
High blood pressure is the pressure your blood is traveling through your arteries. Now if your arteries are hardened or getting clogged that will make your heart beat faster so your blood can pass through. Which brings me to my first point, blood pressure can be very serious if let get out of hand. One problem can lead to many more. Blood pressure when too high damages many organs in your body, your heart for instance when pumping fast or hard to compensate for the damaged arteries actually damages other blood vessles in the kidneys, eyes, brain, which eventually will lead to damage of those organs as well.…
Hypertensive heart disease is obviously caused by high blood pressure. High blood pressure means the pressure inside the blood vessels, which is arteries is too high. As the heart pumps, it must pump against the pressure, so it must work harder. Gradually, the heart muscles will be thicken. Sometimes it does not get enough oxygen because the muscle is too thick. It influenced your heart to pump regularly and its functions. These changes could effect the thickening and enlargement of the heart (left ventricle).…
High blood pressure or Hypertension effects more than 900 million people world wide (Hajjar, Kotchen, & Kotchen, 2006). This disease can affect both men and women alike and can develop at various ages. Many Americans suffer from high blood pressure and many do not know they even have this disease. High blood pressure puts an individual at risk of stroke, heart attack, and death. The purpose of this paper is to describe a research strategy toward finding a solution for the researcher’s high blood pressure.…

High Blood Pressure occurs when there is high pressure in the arteries and the blood vessels are narrow or stiff, which makes the heart pumps harder to get blood through the rest of the body. High Blood Pressure is a health issue that many people today are forced to live with. It is a condition that is increasing more and more each day. There is approximately about 1 in every 3 adults in the United States, which has been estimated to be around 73 million people. Among American teens and children there is about two million who are affected by high blood pressure. High Blood Pressure (HBP) brings on other health conditions such as tumors, diabetes and kidney hypertension. That along shows it is a major public health condition, that has been researched and have had many drugs made to keep it under control along with exercise and diet.…
