Hate Crime Analysis It has been found all over the world where acts of violence were taking upon specific groups of people for reasons such as their race, religion and even gender. Although this may not seem the right or ethical thing to do yet some people follow their beliefs rather than what is ethical. This is where hate crimes come into play. In recent years, hate crimes against religious groups, especially Muslims and Arabs have increased and this is blamed by the “War on Terrorism”. It is thought that the “War on Terrorism” and the event of September 11th have placed a permanent picture in the minds of Americans to automatically assume or suspect that any American Muslim or Arab looking individual may be a terrorist and planning another horrific act against the United States of America.

After reviewing the required material for this module, there are numerous amount of interesting information about the topic of hate crimes. When viewing the lecture, hate crimes is like a reminder of the Micro level theory of Resource theory. Resource theory, the same as hate crimes brings to mind of power. Power, where a person displays their control over another person, by commanding them to do what is said and done. What also caught my attention were the charts that were in the written lectures. When viewing them, I was wondering why was there a high number of Hate Crime Incidents, and a high number of cases for Religious hate crime in the year 2001. It came to me after realizing that the reasons for the high numbers of incidents and cases…

Who are the victims in a hate crime? Victimization does not end with the primary person that was attacked. The Laramie Project demonstrated how the entire community, and eventually the nation, of a little town in Wyoming was affected by the death of 22 year old Matthew Shepard in October, 1998. Secondary victims, who do not bear the physical pain, but endure the after effects and emotional pain, included Matthew’s parents, Deputy Sheriff Reggie Fluty (who was called to the crime scene and tended to Matthew), and Doctor Cantway (who treated both Matthew and one of his attackers, Aaron McKinney) (Karmen, 2013). The effects of this hate crime saturated a society and called more than morals into question. Incidents like these force humanity to look at itself and criticize its core beliefs. Laramie’s motto of “Live and Let Live” applied to most…

In today's society many hate crimes are not reported to the police, though we hear them more often than before. The most reported hate crimes are based on race. Although their are many other motives of hate crime race is the predominate. A hate crime should be taken seriously because if it's not taken seriously it makes it much easier for other criminals to commit these types of crimes because the punishment isn't severe. Media since it is a large gateway of information, should take initiative to promote diversity or inform viewers that hate crimes are at an all time…

Religious hate groups have been increasing by quite a bit ever since the attacks of September 11, 2001. Especially anti-Muslim groups. A religious hate crime is a crime committed because of somebody’s religion. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, ¨Anti-Muslim hate groups are a relatively new phenomenon in the United States, most of them appearing in the aftermath of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Earlier anti-Muslim groups tended to be religious in orientation and disputed Islam’s status as a respectable…

Although individuals are free to believe in what they want, there is a limit to how much an individual can practice it. Hate crimes attack the very base of American society, built on freedom and equality. This is where the line must be drawn. It is America's job to ensure that freedom and equality is available to everyone without the oppression of any individuals who think otherwise. Hate crime offenders practice their beliefs to the point that their actions are no longer safe on the individuals against their views. As with any case under the American law, crimes become hate crimes if, and only if, there is sufficient evidence that the motive was a bias against the victim. For example, the Shepard case involved a witness, an attacker's girlfriend, which stated that the suspect's actions were triggered by "how he felt about gays." The trials resulted in both suspects receiving an additional life sentence due to the hate crime evidence. Another famous case is the Zimmerman case which involved a Hispanic man who shot, and ultimately killed, an African-American teenager…

As a young adult, I believe I am more likely to be persuade by a community leader than a school administrator or police chief because a community leader is not necessary an authority figure. If I was a hate crime offender I feel like I am more likely to trust someone who is not in my view an authority figure such as a peer or a community leader. If I was a community leader my plan to decrease hate crimes will be community meetings regarding the issue, I would try to encourage parents and their children to attend the meetings since offenders tend to be young males. It is important to talk to these families and help them understand the impact that hate crimes causes on the victims and other people that share something in common with the victims…

Since the 1980’s, people in America have had a xenophobic view towards Middle Eastern people and Muslims. This is partly due to Islamic terrorism that has increased since 2001. This has lead political leaders- mostly or all conservative- to place legislation and executive orders to block or restrict a certain demographic of people who they deem may be terrorists. These conservative politics have a destructive effect and have created a xenophobic society.…

Crimes of hatred or racism, today our system is working to prevent these crimes and bring forth justice to those who committed them. “Instead of placing the blame on the teenager, we need to place the blame on the responsible adult. Her son 17 years of age was being targeted because of his physical appearance and his life has been taken away. Due to a huge number of different groups of people in America, it is unavoidable that bad conducts which are motivated by prejudices between these groups have been existed for a long time. The degree of seriousness of the bad conducts also varies. Some are simply normal prejudices, but some transform into crimes. These crimes are defined as “hate crimes”. The book “Hate Crimes: Criminal Law and Identity Politics” is to “subject hate crime laws to critical examination.”…
