Teens don't always want to tell the coach they have a concussion to risk having to stay on the sidelines. Which is why players get even hurt more for not taking care of the problem before it got worst. High school players usually don’t have expert medical help or none at all. Which is why they get hurt more the college or pro because they have experts taking care of them. Improving helmet technology is a good place to start making football safer. Coaches also need to make sure players with head injuries stay off the field long enough to fully heal. They should also reduce the overall hits to the head in practice and on the field. NFL has started fining or threatening to suspend players who violate existing rules on unnecessary or intentional hits. It’s also considering changing the frequency and structure of practice to lessen the amount of head trauma.
