Happy Prince
The story of Happy Prince was published in 1888. It is an allegory. The story is religious and is full of happiness. Happy Prince is a statue with a smile on his lips. It is made of gold, sapphires, and brilliants. Some time ago he was a boy with not knowing what tears were. Swallow is a bird, helping Happy Prince to please people.
The story begins very strange with a describing of a beautiful statue, standing very high. In the story we can find a lot of similes, metaphors, flash-backs.
A simile is describing Happy Prince: “He is beautiful as a weathercock”. I think that it means that the mental state of the prince changes frequently. Then Oscar Wild compares him with an angel. From a dictionary the angel is a messenger, who serves God in Heaven, so we understand that Prince is God’s messenger on the Earth. Happy Prince gives his care to people. But Happy Prince also has feminine features. He has tears on his golden cheeks, he stands under the moonlight. Features of Happy Prince win the heart of Swallow.
Swallow is a beard, who loves a coquettish reed by the river. From the book of symbols I understand that Swallow is a bird, belonging to the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Between Swallow and Happy Prince love and friendship appears. Prince wants to rescue people and Swallow helps him with this, by giving people the jewels from the body of Happy Prince. After doing good things to people they both begin to feel warmth in their soul.
A strange simile is “his lips are red as pomegranate”. The word pomegranate has mean as red as blood.
The author hates the Mayor and the Town Councilors, because they were vulgar, selfish, thinking only about themselves, but not about the people. Mathematical Master is a negative person, because of his hate to

The King statue is a larger than life representation that looks different from the back and the front. The base of the statue has four panels, each with a different scene depicted on them. This makes the viewer motivated to walk around to each side and look at the panels. It is difficult to make a personal connection to this work because it is a lot higher than the viewer’s line of sight. It makes the viewer feel underneath the statue and not at eye level. However, the statue’s lifelike quality and naturalistic appeal provide a more personal experience.…

The similes used also created a mysterious image of death. It referred death as a delicate bird, gardener and nurse that is the opposite of what people sees it. This is rather elusive and slippery which highlighted the relationship of human with death, which we all know what death is but no one could ever get a close look at it.…

The poem then in line seventeen starts to talk about the end of the day. The darkness is coming upon it, and it is headed into the singing place. The poem also mentions wearing cactus flowers, which represents the strength again of the magical being having been chased and then running into the safe haven that is the swamp. Then the animal becomes a magical being again and starts the chant with the eagle feather. The magical being is then going back up to heaven. It is rejoiced, and starts to sing, and it's heart even begins to glow with happiness. He is one again with the heavens. The sky shows its happiness by giving off a rainbow the rest of the people can see from earth. It returns to its burrow, watches the flowers bloom, and looks at all the beauty created. The magical being has four eagle feathers, and when he turns with them his…

A technique, which alludes to the idea of men being the negative influence on the poem, is rhetorical questions. ‘Will you get me out of this bird suit?’ could emphasize Atwood’s belief that men are superficial and care only about the looks of a woman. The ‘bird suit’ may symbolize the outside beauty of a woman and the inside of the suit could represent the personality, which she may see as equally or more beautiful. The use of a rhetorical question displays the hidden secrets and many unanswered questions within a relationship. The personal pronoun ‘you’ may make the persona feel unique and the most important power in a relationship, which would definitely communicate how alluring the ‘bird suit’ is.…

The man in the poem says, “At times the swan’s song I took to myself as pleasure, the gannet’s noise and the voice of the curlew instead of the laughter of men, the singing gull, instead of the drinking of mead.” This shows that the man who was thought to be weakened by being thrown into nature with animals, has found a way to still find happiness. This shows man's natural connection to animals in nature that could not be seen while living in cities. The seafarer became friends with the “singing” birds, which helped keep him sane while at sea. An occurrence that was surely not predicted to have happened when he was excommunicated. It was the sea farers connection to animals that kept him alive and gave him reason to live, other than his love of God, and hope to find a new…
