Hannah Noir Short Stories
Slowly, I began seeing carved pumpkins, skeletons, and ghosts. It was time for Halloween. Hannah le Noir approached me with a gleam in her eyes and I knew she had a plan. “Let’s make our own costumes!” she blurted out. I questioned her by stating that we could just buy one from Walmart. “No no no no no—if we just buy it, then it would not be as meaningful. I want to create my own possessions and with the hard work I put in, something great will surely emerge,” she strongly replied. On October 31st, we were ready to trick or treat in our homemade red riding hood costumes. For every knock and every door bell rung, we were answered by a handful of candy. After we had a basketful of sweets, Hannah gave half of the candy she collected to her younger brother. Not only does Hannah le Noir passionately pursues building crafts, but she also possesses the kindest and most accepting heart one could have. Hannah will make anything she can with great fervor. …show more content…
Although I could barely understand and speak English during my first few months in the U.S., she accepted me for who I was and treated me as if I was just like everyone else and not some foreigner. I am not the only one whom she embraced--her brother, Benjamin, was born with down syndrome but welcomed into her world and family. She takes care of her brother with great patience despite the fact that he can be exceptionally stubborn. Throughout her life, she had to cancel many events in order to accommodate the plans of her brother. For example, she constantly had the responsibility of watching over her brother and even cancelled her own birthday party due to conflicts with Benjamin—there would be no one to supervise him and her parents were too busy with him to host a proper celebration. Hannah was put into a lot of pressure since a young age to look over her brother; despite all the impediments, she never complained about him but accepted him as her lovable

On December 18, 2015 I had heard once that day that it was snowing. That crisp, pure snow was falling right outside the theater where 50 dancers, including myself, were rushing to get ready. I didn’t get to see it that day, but I wish I had. I was with two of the best friends you could ever ask for. Each of us was dressed in our own version of an 1800's party dress, like we always are when we preform Tchaikovsky's Classic Nutcracker. Abby's having an odd flower design over deep burgundy, Jadyn's had a full blue dress with an abnormal piece of cloth working as a chest plate, and mine could be used as a purple and gold checker board based on the pattern. Abby, Jadyn, and I were setting up the last of our props when we realized that a doll was missing.…

Walking through almost any toy store today, the first thing to be noticed would be that there are two main sections. One, displaying an immense amount of colors from pink, yellow, to purple. Have you ever not seen eye to eye with your mother? In Alice Walker’s short story “Everyday Use”, we are shown how many of the choices we make and the things we value create our identity. This story focuses on two characters, mama and her daughter Dee (Wangero), who struggle to see the same way about their heritage. Dee wants the things made by her grandmother, to not admire it as an artifact, but rather to remake it. She wants to take them, and change them to match her lifestyle as it is today. She loves them for the way they look. Mama, on the other hand, views the things from her mother as artifacts. She loves the items more than how they look. She admires the quilts because of their everyday use. Transformations take place between these characters. Dee’s transformation is more external than it is internal. She shows her transformation in the way she speaks, the clothes she wears, and her judgement. Mama’s transformation is more internal. She begins to see Dee’s real thoughts, and she stands up against her. When she takes the quilts away from Dee, she doesn’t only stand up for herself, but Maggie, as…
