A healthy heart is essential for a hockey slap shot. Hockey is mostly thought of as an anaerobic sport/exercise as players play in shifts that can range from 1-2 minutes. For that short amount of time they will exhaust a significant amount of energy that could sustain someone for a much longer duration. Performing a slap shot is an explosive movement. The slap shot can be categorized into 3 stages of movement - Preparation, Windup, and Follow Through/Impact. Consequently the intense nature of the movement causes an increase in your heart rate particularly at the follow through/ impact which is when the player actually will attempt to take the shot .…

I had to get them to see the balls as ‘seats’ and not toys,” says Mrs. Boddiford. The biggest, most notable difference has been the attentiveness that her students are displaying during instructional class time. “For the most part, they are focussed on me and their work. Mrs. Boddiford says, “The extra energy they would normally use to distract class or mess with other classmates, is being used to balance themselves on the ball.” The students say they don’t get tired or bored in class as easily now, because they can move by doing…

College has so far exceeded my expectations in a huge way. As a new member of the ice hockey team there were many uncertainties and worries, as well as tons of excitements and anticipations. Obviously the biggest part, school, was nerve wracking and exciting too. In college hockey its very common that players take a few years off of school prior to attending, to play hockey in junior hockey leagues. This created a bit more nerves then excitement for the classroom aspect of school since i've only taken 3 college courses since graduating high school, making it a bit harder to get back into the swing of things. Besides getting back into school routine, being a hockey player in college has made the beginning…

They could not block or throw balls, but could run around the middle collecting as many balls as they wanted to return to their team. Everyone else had to stand on the line and protect their bowling pin and toss balls towards the other team’s side. Once all the pins were knocked down on one of the team’s side, that team’s ship was sunk and the game was over. Mr. Fowler, the Physical Education assistant, did most of the speaking on Wednesday and Mr. Dunn stood by me to talk about what all being a Physical Education teacher includes. Mr. Dunn also spoke up to the students if it was needed, but for the majority of the time Mr. Fowler told the students what to do and he really emphasized the rules of the game so no one would get hurt. One very important rule was that the children could not squat down to guard their pin, but could block by knocking the balls away. The reason for this rule was because if a pin was hit hard enough it could bounce up and hit a child in the face or a ball could accidentally be thrown at that child’s face. Mr. Fowler emphasized these rules four or five times and had the students repeat them back before the game began, then continually reminded the students of the rules as…

We covered only the tactical aspects of the game. If you knew someone could kick the ball far, the team catching should back up a bit in the field. If you knew someone could only kick the ball 15-20 meters the team catching should move forward a bit. So the team catching should always adjust where they are according to who the kicker is. Also if the kicker is right footed there is a tendency that he will kick to the left. Same if the kicker is left footed there is a tendency he will kick to the right. The goal of the game is to kick the ball and round as many bases as possible. There are 3 bases to…

During the pass more than 9 weeks of Hockey class, my classmate and me have been playing hockey together. Firstly our hockey is different from the real hockey because is our hockey, which we sets our own rules and play in the way which all of us, can have fun and enjoy. And of cause we faced many problems when we were trying to set our own rules because maybe some of us agree about new rule but some of us doesn’t, so in the end we trying to solve the problems by using both ideas from all of us so that we don’t have to arguing with another and then we see which rules were fixed to us, after that we disgust together which rule works and which rule doesn’t works. Applying to my dairy life, I usually applying the same concepts and skills from this hockey lesson to my real life, for example I remember in my history class the teacher was set me into two pairs to make the presentation about Napoléon, and we both came out in the different ideas of making the presentation just like in the hockey that we were trying to set the rules and everybody had the different ideas, so with my pair we talked together and we came out with the ideas that hey lets mix our ideas together and make the presentation, we both had good ideas so why don’t we use some ideas from one of us and some form the another. In the end we had the amazing presentation without have the argument with the team and we were happy. And another thing I learned from this class basically to adapting the problem, in the hockey class I am not good at anything but I can passing the ball and catching the ball in the high speed, however some of my teammate’s skill is lower to be able to catch the fast passing speed, so I need to adapt my self to pass slower so that my teammate could get the ball. Applying to my real life, when I speaking in the language that I already good at it with the person who was not good at this language I need…
