Hamlet Suffers Mental Illness.
In the world, William Shakespeare’s plays have the reputation of being among the greatest in the English language and western literature. One of the most famous Shakespeare’s tragedies plays, Hamlet, talks about the Prince to seek revenge to his uncle/ stepfather who killed his father during the play and it indicates the characters’ emotions and physiological status. According to William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, Hamlet suffers mental illness since his father’s death and the remarriage of his mother to his uncle to affect Hamlet being insane, depressed and melancholy because of the tragedies on Hamlet, conversation to the ghost, and seeking revenge and being serious day by day. Therefore, Hamlet is being insane in the sane world and everybody is in normal.
First of all, in the beginning of the play, there are many tragedies happen on Hamlet and they affect him to suffer from mental illness. Old Hamlet dies and his mother’s remarriage to Claudius make Hamlet feels anger, depressed, and melancholy. Hamlet says to himself, “O that this too too solid flesh would melt, Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew! Or that the Everlasting had not fix’d […] It is not, nor it cannot come to good; But break my heart, -for I must hold my tongue” (1.2.129-158). According to the quote, it indicates that Hamlet is a melancholy person and it clearly shows that it is suicidal and Hamlet’s mental and emotions are unstable. The words that have been mentioned in the quote, Hamlet’s desire for his “flesh” to “melt” and dissolve into “dew” shows Hamlet’s anger and depression over his father’s death and his mother’s remarriage. Hamlet really wants to commit suicide but he cannot because of the law that against to suicide. Furthermore, Hamlet is disappointed and cannot believe that his mother remarriage to Claudius after the Old Hamlet’s death not even two months.
