Hamlet And Willy Lom Character Analysis
Destiny can be described as a predetermined future. One may attempt to reach there objective and strive while others may fail miserably. An individuals destiny does not only rely on there attempts to achieve what they please furthermore others can have a great impact on another persons destiny. A great deal of trust may intervene between individuals if one shows kindness to the other. Contrary to this is kindness may also weaken a persons destiny because trust can be used to gain advantage. The three novels Hamlet, A Streetcar Named Desire and Death of A Salesman display a unique process of how a protagonist faces kindness in addition how this behaviour can shape ones destiny.

The character of Hamlet is the prince of Denmark, he is full of hatred towards King Claudius which is also his uncle. Hamlet’s disgust in the King comes from his scheme full personality and sexual affection towards Gertrude the queen and …show more content…
His erratic behaviour is no match for the ecstasy of the American dream as leisurely his career beings to roll downhill in the same way as his mental health. Willy is a insecure man that can not accept his fate, his son Biff is not the man Willy wishes him to be. In addition his younger son Happy has been living is the shadow of his older brother and can not condemn his lust. Willy feels the betrayal of Biff not being successful is the fact that Biff discovers that Willy had slept with another women. Willy has a essence of abandonment around him. His brother Ben passed away when Willy was young leaving him no leniency. The only individual that cautions Willy and his actions is his wife Linda. Linda is loyal to Willy and she is perhaps the kindness that keeps Willy in his state of mind which is harming him in every way.     I thought it was interesting the way Willy seems to always contradict himself. On page 36, after stating to his wife Linda that he will be a great success at work next week, he claims “You know, the trouble is, Linda, people don’t seem to take to me,”. He also flips between calling Biff a “lazy bum” and then a “hard worker”. This contradiction between fantasy and reality seems to help Willy cope with his unsatisfactory lifestyle. Because of the abandonment from his father and brother at an early age, Willy has never been taught a healthy concept of self-worth and therefore tries to measure his self-worth by the standards of the famous American Dream, which in itself contradicts reality. The myth of the American Dream has its strongest pull on the individuals who do not enjoy the happiness and prosperity that it promises. Willy pursues the fruits of that dream as a panacea for the disappointments and the hurts of his own youth. He is a true believer in the myth that any “well liked” young man possessing a certain degree of physical faculty and “personal attractiveness” can achieve the Dream if he journeys forth in the world with a can-do attitude of confidence.     In the play Hamlet, Shakespeare creates a rich emotional fabric in Hamlet's first soliloquy. From the first lines of the soliloquy, we can find such emotions as depression, disillusion, anger, and even the hatred and disgust for Hamlet's mother and uncle. The first line in the soliloquy shows us depression: "O! that this too too solid flesh would melt,/Thaw and resolve itself into a dew" (Shakespeare 42). Hamlet's depressive spirit is explained by that he is tired of life and wants to die. The reason for this is that all of the events, like King Hamlet's death or Claudius's marriage with Gertrude, Hamlet's mother, which happens with the Prince press on him. As for the being disillusion about the Queen, when she marries Claudius, Hamlet asks himself "why, she would hang on him,/As if increase of appetite had grown" (Shakespeare 42). Hamlet feels disillusioned about his mother because after two months when his father dead, she married Claudius. In Hamlet's opinion his mother betrayed his fathers love. Also Hamlet feels too angry with his uncle, so he compares Claudius with his father, who was "so excellent a king" and says about the new king "that was, to this,/Hyperion to a satyr" (Shakespeare 42). The young Prince can't understand how his uncle can be a better king than his father. Hamlet is angry with Claudius because that "satyr" married his mother and called Hamlet his son, without asking his opinion or wish. Hamlet is not only angry with his uncle, but also he hates Claudius: "My father's brother, …/within a month,/Ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears/Had left the flushing in her galled eyes" (Shakespeare 44). Hamlet hates his uncle because Claudius seduced his mother. But the strongest emotion Hamlet has in my mind is disgust about his mother: "a beast, that wants discourse of reason" (Shakespeare 42).     What distinguishes Hamlet from other revenge tragedy plays is the amount of action expected, especially from Hamlet himself as he continuously hesitates due to him trying to be absolute certain of his actions.
