"Hamlet" and the "Lion King".
Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, had an inner conflict. The main character, Hamlet, struggled with the emotions involving his father's murder. A modern day version of Hamlet was made a couple of years ago. This movie is called "The Lion King". "The Lion King" is a cartoon movie expressing a similar plot to the story of Hamlet. In both stories, the main character has one goal. The ultimate goal is to seek revenge on their father's murderer.
In the play "Hamlet", Hamlet finds out about the death of his father through his father's ghost. At this point Hamlet becomes mad. He doesn't speak to anyone, and if he does, it is only hurtful words. For example, when Hamlet speaks to Ophelia, he ridicules her. He also speaks meanly to his mother privately in her room. Although hamlet uses this behavior, it is involuntary. Hamlet's recent discovery about his father's death has caused him to want revenge. The sudden shock and his plan caused insanity upon Hamlet.
The movie, "The Lion King", has a similar plot, but is in a cartoon version. The movie uses lions instead of people. Simba is the main character who watches his uncle as he murders his father. Simba's uncle threatens him, so he is forced to run away. As Simba grew, he realized what had really happened to his father. The sudden urge for revenge on he uncle overpowered him. With the help of his father's spirit, Simba eventually returns home to claim his rightful position as king.
Both the play and the movie have similarities and differences. They both have the same plot. The main character in each has the ultimate goal of revenge. In "Hamlet", Hamlet goes though a period of insanity; while in, "The Lion King", Simba goes through a period of realization. The act of revenge is the main theme throughout the two stories. Although each story was in a completely different version, both used great techniques to convey the theme.
