"Hamlet" and the "Lion King".
Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, had an inner conflict. The main character, Hamlet, struggled with the emotions involving his father's murder. A modern day version of Hamlet was made a couple of years ago. This movie is called "The Lion King". "The Lion King" is a cartoon movie expressing a similar plot to the story of Hamlet. In both stories, the main character has one goal. The ultimate goal is to seek revenge on their father's murderer.

In the play "Hamlet", Hamlet finds out about the death of his father through his father's ghost. At this point Hamlet becomes mad. He doesn't speak to anyone, and if he does, it is only hurtful words. For example, when Hamlet speaks to Ophelia, he ridicules her. He also speaks meanly to his mother privately in her room. Although hamlet uses this behavior, it is involuntary. Hamlet's recent discovery about his father's death has caused him to want revenge. The sudden shock and his plan caused insanity upon Hamlet.

The movie, "The Lion King", has a similar plot, but is in a cartoon version. The movie uses lions instead of people. Simba is the main character who watches his uncle as he murders his father. Simba's uncle threatens him, so he is forced to run away. As Simba grew, he realized what had really happened to his father. The sudden urge for revenge on he uncle overpowered him. With the help of his father's spirit, Simba eventually returns home to claim his rightful position as king.

Both the play and the movie have similarities and differences. They both have the same plot. The main character in each has the ultimate goal of revenge. In "Hamlet", Hamlet goes though a period of insanity; while in, "The Lion King", Simba goes through a period of realization. The act of revenge is the main theme throughout the two stories. Although each story was in a completely different version, both used great techniques to convey the theme.

Hamlet is considered one of today's greatest tragedies. "The Lion King" could be considered

Considered one of the most successful animated films of all time, Disney’s The Lion King, was released in 1994 during what is now considered by John Morton, the Disney Renaissance. In The Lion King, a cub named Simba, plays the role of the young prince whose father is murdered, and from there, it shows the rapid maturation from a child to fully a grown beast, to a difference maker, to a king. By the acts in the story alone, one can see that Simba is a direct representation of Shakespeare 's Hamlet Jr. Not only that, each of them shares similar actions in the play. Interpretations of Simba 's actions are as profound as Hamlet 's. The…

Next, Timon and Pumbaa From the movie The Lion King are most like Horatio From the play Hamlet. In The Lion King Timon and Pumbaa are two characters that help Simba most when he is down, from his father’s death. Timon and Pumbaa go with Simba everywhere kind of like Horatio. They are always there for him and will give their life for their friend. In Hamlet Horatio tries to take his life to show respect to Hamlet, and in The Lion King Timon and Pumbaa go with Simba to fight off Hyenas in the Pride Land. Even though The Lion King is based off of Hamlet there are still differences between the characters. One major difference is when Hamlet leave for England Horatio stays home. There are both many similarities and differences when comparing and contrasting Shakespeare's play Hamlet versus Franco Zefferelli's film version. The most obvious difference between the two is that they are different mediums, one is written and one is visual. People can have varied perceptions from what you thought the appearances and mannerisms of the characters to be while reading the text then when you see them on the screen. Hamlet appeared to be much older in the film than Ophelia, who looked about the age she was intended to be in the play. Gertrude is perceived to be mature and calm in the play, while in the film she is giddy and acts like a young girl. While the play and film are similar in that the movie uses the original old English…

For example when Hamlet is talking to Ophelia while she is trying to give his belongings back it seems that the Hamlet is just insulting her in a calm manner but in the novel, but as we see in the film we see that he i very angry while he is saying Hamlet says “Go. Farewell. Or, if thou wilt needs marry,/ marry a fool, for wise men know well enough/ what monsters you make of them. To a nunnery, go, and/ quickly too. Farewell”(III.i.138-142). Seeing hamlet full of anger and sadness in the film it is shown by crying and screaming seeing him do this helps show how much pain he is going threw with his father dead and his uncle marrying his mother. The novel cannot show much emotion because it is expressed in words in Hamlet's soliloquies he speaks on how he needs to avenge his father but never does because he is too much of a coward, when Hamlet is speaking there is so much anger and sadness that he is going thru you can not tell if he sad or if he is just angry in the novel the film showed that the novel couldn't, all the reader could tell is that hamlet misses his…

In Shakespeare's "Hamlet", Hamlet, the main character, displays a very indecisive and uncertain demeanor throughout Hamlet. This recurrent behavior is displayed when: Hamlet first encounters the Ghost of his father, to learn that Hamlet's Uncle, the King, killed Hamlet's Father, also in Shakespeare's most prolific monologue of Hamlet and lastly when Hamlet stabs one of the King's confidants, Polonius. Hamlet's wavering decision making as well as his uncertainty in everything leads to Hamlet's apparent insanity; although he is not completely insane, just to a certain degree that allows him to be somewhat sane.…

We can definitely see his madness and the evidence that he really goes mad when he said he sees his father’s ghost in his mother’s chambers while his mother does not see the ghost. Hamlet intentions in acting insane in order to get to his goal: "I essentially am not in madness”, Hamlet tells his mother that he is not mad and that he is mad in craft. [Act III, scene IV, lines 188-199]. Hamlet believes he is sane all the times, and did not realize that his actions and his madness is overwhelming him. His attitude resulted to the death of several people which included his mother and the King of Denmark. He is more desperate with the marriage of his mother to his uncle. We realize his violence and jealousy towards his mother. With these events, he builds frustration and anger and which turns him into an insane character. After Hamlet had killed Polonius, he had nothing to say and he even went on to call him a rat. This shows that he doesn’t care much about killing someone and moreover it does not affect him too much because he is so persistent in revenge. It seems as if he will go above and beyond his limits to get revenge. After the death of Polonius, Ophelia dies and this does not affect Hamlet as much as we believe in the consequences because he does state that, “[He] did love [Ophelia] once,”…

William Shakespeare's Hamlet has been remade a number of times in film and in plays. I recently watched two movies of Hamlet directed by different people. The directors add little things to make it their own interpretation of the play Hamlet. Some directors like to emphasize different scenes for instance. The Hamlet movies that I watched were one directed by Kenneth Branagh, and one by Franco Zeffirelli. The directors in each of these had their own way of telling the story of Hamlet.…
