Halloween Descriptive Writing
The days were ticking down. Halloween was now less than a week away and the need for decoration was essential. In a town named Exitium, about thirty minutes away from the California-Oregon border, Halloween was a huge thing. Every year there was a decorating contest. The winner for five years in a row was a woman named Sarah Smith. This woman had short, black, bouncy hair. She was a single mother and had a foster child, Harris. While Harris was at school, Sarah was rushing around stores and malls, looking for the perfect decorations.
After she finished shopping, she hauled all the bags of decorations onto her commodious granite counter. She then took a quick inventory. Once she finished, she looked down at the list and realized one thing that

He face lit up with excitement and Sarah was pleased that she had made his day. He walked towards her, when all of a sudden, a thick green vine shot out of the pumpkin and latched around Sarah’s throat, choking her. Harris, not knowing what to do, just started at the scene. The pumpkin’s cut off side then reunited with the rest of its body. Then, thick green vines shot out of the new pumpkin’s body forming arms and legs, turning it into a pumpkin monster. The monster then tossed Sarah up into the air and swallowed her whole. Then, a skin cell floated away into thin air. The rest of the pumpkin’s cells followed suit and soon, the only thing left was a little piece of parchment. Harris walked over to it and picked it up, still in shock. It read, You must listen and obey or others will …show more content…
The home was massive. The entrance doors were made of dark oak and had shiny gold doorknobs. He stepped into the house and got an immediate sense of wealth. Everything was neatly polished and dusted. He then saw the family standing in the living room. There was nice velvet colored furniture and a fire burning in the fireplace. They were a family of five. The dad had coal black hair, a thin layer of facial hair, a white tank top with blotches of oil on it and black basketball shorts. The mom was much more forma. She had a tight side braid that dropped over her left shoulder. She had a plain teal dress and pearl white heels on. Their oldest son, who looked about seventeen, had a plaid navy blue and white button up shirt and gray blue jeans. Their next child looked about Harris’ age, thirteen. She had dirty blond hair that was done tightly that dropped over her left shoulder. She had a long black dress with a snowy white top on above it. Their final child was a baby that was held in her mother’s arms. She had a flower onesie on that had various flowers scattered all over it. He was then escorted to bed as the rest of the kids went to their own bedrooms. He was then tucked into bed and his new mom gave him a kiss and turned off the lights. Soon after, he drifted off to sleep. While he was asleep, a windstorm picked up and threw his bedroom window open.

As a memoir, this is truly unique. It must have taken tremendous effort to write this often painful recollection of your own life. Yet, the exercise of exploring the dynamics of such a dysfunctional family, and the parental unit as a separate entity analyzed by a daughter, had to be a revelation and a healing experience. One merit of the work is the strength of character bred into these children, celebrated and seen in…

Inside the cottage, Maggie sat at the table. The cigarette still hung loosely from her fingers. Her skin had browned and grown tight around her bones as it dried with age. Her head had shrunk considerably, the empty sockets of her eyes receding deep within. Maggie’s stomach, where the Coroner had crudely sewn her back together, had pulled apart at the stiches leaving gaping diagonal crevices. The wedding dress they buried her in was wrinkled. Her hair, while wiry, laid neatly groomed. Sam, having taken her brush from the bathroom, had done it before…

As a child I was psyched up, I couldn’t wait to look at all the pumpkins and carve it as a dinosaur. I literally was obsessed with dinosaurs until the age of nine. We parked our 1997 Corolla and started to walk to all the bright orange pumpkins. Something was strange from the looks of this place. All the pumpkins had white little tags on them but they weren’t dollar signs like you would expect. They all had words on them, I was only six at the time so I couldn’t read that much. A few words I read out loud from one of the white little tags but struggled to read the whole sentence. My mom was confused too, why would all the pumpkins have stupid little quotes on them she murmured. We soon found out shortly that this was at our advantage and not a disappointment. A tall black man with dreads came out of the trailer by the pumpkin patch and walked up to us. He asked “What can I help you with folks?” My mother asked him about the pumpkins and the quotes on them. He laughed, since it’s three days before Halloween were having a little contest. I looked up at him and…

Rufus King’s life was well portrayed by the way he lived and his home was a great way of showing that. The outside of the house was an off white color and had a big door as an entrance that demonstrated power. As I entered the house, I noticed the different types of shades the walls. For instance the Parlor, which for us is known as the living room, was very spacious and had great detailing by the fireplace, which represented wealth. The marble was somewhat luxurious and gave the guest a nice impression. The walls were a bright green color and the reason for it was because he felt the brighter the more money and success it brought. In this same room was a portrait of the King family, a finger dipper and a teapot.…
