Crossing boundaries is pushing yourself past the limits. There are many people that cross various boundaries, whether it is a physical boundary, cultural boundary or a mental boundary. This is seen in the prescribed text, the film ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’ directed by Bruce Beresford. In this we see not only the main character Li cross boundaries but also, the minor characters, Ben and Teacher Chang. Crossing boundaries also heard in the Song ‘Love Story’ by Taylor swift. This song relates back to the play “Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare. In these texts we see Romeo and Juliet both crossing boundaries. Childhood is a crucial stage in an individual’s development. It allows a kid to develop its own personality, to gain social experiences, and to determine the type of person that it will become. The innocence and purity of children is what keeps them from growing up too fast and from being pulled into the adult world too soon. In “Lullabies for Little Criminals”, Heather O’Neill explores the latter theme through the loss of innocence of Baby, the main character. Baby’s harsh social environment causes her to experience situations that deprive her from the beauty of childhood. Such experiences would include an early exposition to drugs, a stay in juvenile detention, and a life as a young prostitute.…

The boy fondly remembers his father and all the love his father had for him, and the first sign of regret is seen. Nostalgia is conveyed through images of home such as family and vanity according to Warsan Shire’s poem, “ Maymuun’s Mouth.” Shire communicates a sense of homesickness when she speaks about Maymuun’s “front teeth stain from the fluoride in the water back home.” Shire emphasizes the stains on the teeth because it is the first thing people see, it is a way to differentiate immigrants from the native citizens. Physical appearance reminds her of her life back home. Additionally, memory is articulated through the way in which Maymuun tries to conceal her native beauty. It is divulged that “We’ve received the photos of her standing by a bridge, the baby hair she’d hated all her life slicked down like ravines.” The baby hair on her body reminds her…

It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. In The Song of Songs, the Shulamite and her lover are everything but what society conforms to. In their Hebrew society there are rules and restrictions pertaining to sexual relations and who is allowed to marry who. These rules are stated in the book of Deuteronomy, and if the citizens do not abide by the laws written in the book, the punishments were harsh and brutal. However, the Shulamite and her lover seemed to be living in their own world where they could not care less about what society thought of them. In this poem, The Shulamite and her lover break many laws, and in most cases, desire seems to be considered a higher law to them than anything written in Deuteronomy.…

In the story, Reginald was a fictitious character created by Saki. Trying to look deeper, the name, Reginald, can actually mean ‘king’. In the first sentence, “ ‘Never,’ wrote Reginald to his most darling friend, ‘be a pioneer. It's the Early Christian that gets the fattest lion.’ ” this sentence actually means it is better to stay in middle and keep silent. Being Christians were banned in that era, they were being killed. This sentence in the story is very ironic. Reginald was a teenager who was very naughty, an unconventional person, liked to play jokes or tricks on people. But his family was very conventional. Like the story had mentioned that his family didn’t like Titian hair, because Titian was a shocking colour; they even used primroses as a table decoration, this symbolized they were very boring, they represented Middle Class, and stereotyped persons. Saki wrote and narrated the family: “His family ate porridge, and believed in everything, even the weather forecast.”…

One day on that farm, she walked by a tree that had sung the most beautiful birdsong. Every time she visited that tree, it made her happy. On page 92 Sal explains, “Next to my favorite sugar maple was a tall aspen. When I was younger, I heard the most beautiful birdsong coming from the top of that tree.
