Greetings, Malaysia,
We have seen the censorship taken by the Malaysian government, blocking sites like The Pirate Bay, and WikiLeaks. Malaysia is one of the world’s strictest governments, even blocking out movies, and television shows. These acts of censorship are inexcusable. You are taking away a basic human right. The internet is here for freedom, without fear of government interference. Do not think that no one else notices. Your structured government has done the talking, and we hear loud and clear. Let this be an announcement to all your people. This is a sign, a warning, and an opportunity to listen to ideas above your own. In a way you are being stubborn. But how will this help anyone or your country. We fear that if you make further decisions to take away human freedom. We are obligated to act fast and have no mercy. For rules were meant to be broken. And corruption was meant to be washed away and forgiven. Now we will wash your corruption away so be prepared. Take this as a favor.

“In 2001, the International Telecommunication Union calculated that, approximately 2.3 billion people had internet access at the end of that year. Since then, the percentage of people using the internet around the world has continued to grow” (Li 2). Censoring the internet has been a hot topic for quite a while now. Many people believe that censoring the web isn’t a good thing because of certain laws and rights we have as citizens. The internet has some cons but it also has many pros. The downside of the censorship is that the truth is blocked out and it violates our freedom of speech. On the other hand, censorship of the internet can reduce the numbers or even stop human trafficking, prevent identity theft, stop cyber bullying and so much…

The length the government goes through to keep censorship on this city/world is far too much. The entertainment is limited, and what they want you to see, nothing more. The schools and workplaces are strict and allow no personal thought or ideas. And if you jeopardise any of their laws or thinking processes than you are considered an outlaw and are eliminated as soon as possible.…

    Censorship In Canada

    • 1749 Words
    • 7 Pages

In some parts of the world or even in history, totalitarian societies like this existed and thrived at one point or another as, within their society, not a lot of people knew the truth and could fight the censorship their government was doing. During Hitler’s reign, censorship of all free forms of communications and educated materials was how Hitler basically brainwashed the younger generations of Germans into hating the Jewish. Propaganda was a massive contributor in censorship, as works like Mein Kampf, Der Giftpilz and Trust no Fox were published and read in schools, at home, or anywhere to ensure that the political power had perfectly manipulated a country into believing things they shouldn’t have. This is the insidious side of censorship, the side that enables a government's power over people based on how well they can manipulate a person’s rights. This sad fact is the reason censorship should be fought against; no one should ever be brainwashed into thinking that their rights aren’t as essential because the government has told them so. In modern day China, there’s a heavy amount of censorship that goes on, most of it being media related, from going to the movies all the way up to even texting someone, the government is able to access it all. In Canada, we are lucky enough to not have a pervasive system like this, but if we don’t take action now, who is to say that Canada couldn’t end up like Australia or even America when it comes to censorship - intrusive systems that have no use in protecting one’s…

Since electronic devices such as computer, smart phone and tablet have generalised and the number of internet users is getting bigger, internet contains tremendous amount of information from trivial one to even significant information that could occur a social problem. Every information is exposed through the internet and people could touch those information easily. As these reasons, government wants to control and monitor the internet access in many nations, including North Korea, Iraq, China, Myanmar, Syria, Turkey, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Maldives, and Tunisia so on. This, government control or suppression of what can be gain access to, distributed, or watched on the internet, is called internet censorship. The definition of internet censorship is a way used by government or religious institutions to supervise or regulate the public access to offensive or harmful materials (Turban, 2012) This topic is very sensitive subject to decide whether it should exist or not. There is a sharp division of belief between people who approve and disapprove. This report is going to illustrate how the censorship works by some method, why the internet censorship is necessary, and the disadvantages of internet censorship, finally it talks about examples and current situation of internet censorship in the world.…

The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) states that “the real challenge is to fully exploit the potential of new media while not compromising civil liberties, including the right to freedom of expression, to education and also to privacy.” Despite these declarations, censored countries still restrict their citizens from access to public information. As someone who believes in an open share of information, I believe these restrictions are extremely unethical. In North Korea, only 9.7 percent of the adult population owns a cellphone compared to 91 percent of adults in the United States according to the Pew Research Center. In Cuba, only certain government officials have open access to unlimited Internet. Those who manage to gain access to unblocked Internet and use it towards speaking their mind by creating pages such as blogs are often jailed. The CPJ insists, “Imprisonment is the most effective form of intimidation and harassment used against journalists.” These tactics and limitations are what cause many people to fear speaking out against their repressive governments, which causes indifference when social injustice issues arise. Not allowing citizens to be exposed to vast methods of information limits their ability to grow intellectually. These restrictions keeps people provincial, as they do not know anything past what…

In today’s digital world, most Americans leave long electronic trails of private information wherever they go. But too often, that data is compromised. When they shop—whether online or at brick and mortar stores—retailers gain access to their credit card numbers. Medical institutions maintain patient records, which are increasingly electronic. Corporations store copious customer lists and employee Social Security numbers. These types of data frequently get loose. Hackers gain entry to improperly protected networks, thieves steal employee laptops or disgruntled workers pilfer company information.…

The Great Firewall of China is a surveillance program of the incoming and outgoing Internet flows, and a cyber censorship tool. The surveillance role of this firewall is led by a special unit composed of nearly two million cyber-policemen , whose job is to watch the Internet users: the reading of blogs’ contents represents their main task, as these writings, most of the time, express general opinions on the party to the power and its diverse policies. The cyber-policemen are technically asked to notify every single complain, bad-mouthing or gossip that circulates online about the party. As for the censorship role, it rests on an ingenious high-tech system of firewalls able to deny the access to certain identified web sites or subjects of research .…

People have suffered through not knowing the full extent of the digital age because some governments have prevented them from accessing the information super-highway known as the internet. The internet is censored because of corrupt and controlling governments and schools that think they are helping. Censorship itself is not inherently bad, but the venal tendencies of man are what cause censorship to become the main tool of dictators. The internet should be free, allowing all people of all races and creeds to access its free information. Censorship is an insidious tool that only leads to corruption and lack of creative expression.…

    Internet Censorship

The battle over the internet has been going on for a long time.. People have debated whether the internet is a domain controlled by the government, or a free land populated by memes and emails. Before you choose, know this. The internet was invented to share information; specifically research and development for science and the military. Now it has grown into a tool which allows social networking, information transfer, business, shopping, and so much more, all which has contributed to globalization. However, the government plans to stop that. The government is censoring content on the internet that they find inappropriate. This would effectively remove the content from the internet, with no way to access them. The internet might have been made to trade off military documents, but it is now the people’s domain with over 2.2 billion global internet users today.…
