Habits Of Mind Analysis

Over the years psychologists have categorized many models of success. We are going to focus on three models of success. In Jonah Lehrers article "The Secret of Self-Control" he describes the principals of high and low delayers. High delayers are more successful, have higher SAT scores, have better self control, and can focus on long term goals. Low delayers on the other hand take longer to succeed, have lower SAT scores, struggle with self control, have trouble paying attention, and have problems with drugs. Lehrers article is a prefect companion piece to "The significance of Grit" By Angela Duckworth and "Habits Of Mind" an excerpt from Framework for Success in Post Secondary Writing. Angela Duckworth defines grit as being resilient in the face of failure and adversity referring to kids that come from an at risk environment who thrive never the less. Marie Curie died at the age of 67 of leukemia, brought on by her years of exposure to high levels of radiation. Marie was known for her honesty and moderate life style. Although she was a women in a field of study dominated by men, she was the first women to be awarded not one but two Nobel Prizes, for isolating radium and one examining its chemical properties.
