In the Kingdom Exploration lab, five different organisms were observed under a microscope, (Yeast, Paramecium, Elodea, Daphnia, Euglena). Each of these organisms is apart of one of the six kingdoms, (Eubacteria, Archaebacteria, Fungi, Protista, Plantae, and Animalia) which are apart of three domains, (Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya). In this lab, however, none of the organisms observed were archaea or bacteria. Also, all the organisms were eukaryotes, not prokaryotes, which are organisms without a nucleus and a single chromosome (a double-stranded DNA located in an area of the cell) instead. In the lab, organism one is a very small dark green leaf from a small plant. Under the microscope, there is a lot of chlorophyll, floating around inside the rectangular cells. Organism one…

The goal of this experiment was to see how sunblock ingredients have an impact on hard coral and their symbiotic algae. The experiments were conducted in many different tropical regions for example the Atlantic, Red Sea, Indian, and Pacific oceans by supplementing coral branches with aliquots of sunscreens and common UV filters contained in sunblock formula. Zooxanthellae were checked for viral infection by transmission electron microscopy analyses and epifluorescence. Sunblock does cause the rapid and complete bleaching of hard coral, even when it's at extremely low concentrations. The effect of sunblock is due to organic UV filters, which are able to activate the lytic viral cycle in symbiotic zooxanthellae with latent infections. In the end sunblock, by promoting viral infection, it will most likely play an important role in coral bleaching in areas prone to high levels of recreational used…

We identified the eubranchipus, a organism with similar characteristics to one of a shrimp. Another name for it would be the fairy shrimp. During this observation, only two eubranchipus were identified. We did not have as many eubranchipus as the other groups but we were able to put one under the microscope. This organism has very fast movement and many legs. Another observation we made was that they swim upside down instead of right side up. Bothe of he fairy shrimps were translucent. The colors of them are determined by the food supply of their environment. These organisms started off as dried out eggs but as soon was we added tap water, it made food sources available in order to survive , therefore allowing the eggs to hatch. On the fifth observation, one of our eubranchipus died as another one grew bigger. The surviving shrimp started off as being 0.8 cm and increased to 1.2 cm. This is probably because of the lack of resources and competition - survival of the fittest. Less protist of the same size were found and the water was more still due to the limited organisms living in it. The population of protists are decreasing because it is the food source of the eubranchipus (also cynobacteria). Again, this is because of the existence of a food…

After researching and developing more knowledge about the origin of chordates it has come to conclusion that there are many similarities and common ancestry brought into play about the origin of chordates. Chordates aren’t a development of its own species but it is a development of different phylums such as the echinoderm, the cephalochordate, hemichordates, pogonophorans. Chordates evolved from some deuterostome ancestor as they have similarities in embryonic development, type of coelom and larval stages. Another interesting fact that I learned was that at one point in time all chordates share four characteristics at one point throughout the…

Obstacles are to be expected when getting into a relationship, but what happens when you add current hardships going on in a community or era into the mix? Like it or not the time period and issues concerning ones community influence many of the interactions one may have with other people. During a time of starvation, many people forget about love and instead focus in getting food on the table. And during times of war, people will focus on remaining safe and alive. Many luxuries and feelings are left behind and this influences relationships between people. In the book Germinal, those of the lower class community had to deal with many discriminating factors in their daily lives. So much that common human nature was left forgotten in the past. Likewise, in the book Shosha, the Jewish community lived in terror and with a sense of hopelessness when it came to the future of their people. The relationship between Catherine and Etienne as well as Shosha and Aaron overcame many of the hardships presented to them, all except death. Although both these relationships had many similarities, they too had differences such as the intensity in which they portrayed their love. Aaron and Shosha appeared to have a stronger relationship because they were in love since childhood. Both romances could have ended differently but more so with the relationship between Etienne and Catherine.…
