Gun Control Laws In The United States

Gun control is accepted and also frowned upon by many United States people. There is a Second Amendment gun act to help prevent any laws to be passed that involve hurting or changing the Second Amendment. Surprisingly many of the guns are being bought by only a small percentage of people. “Today two hundred sixty-five million guns are owned by only fourteen percent of the gun owners in the United States”(Turkewitz,“Today”). Too many gun control laws enforced can cause problems with the Constitution and Purchasing guns.
The Constitution plays a major role in allowing people to have possession of guns and to legally carry a gun. Stated by the second amendment “The right of the people to keep and bear arms. shall not be infringed”(Second amendment
In some states citizens have to earn a conceal carry license though a class, and in others the state laws allow people to open carry without a carrying permit. “The DC Personal Protection Reciprocity Act ensures that law abiding citizens have the right to protect and defend themselves in our nation's capital by allowing individuals with lawful concealed carry permit to lawfully carry registered firearms”(DC Personal Protection Reciprocity Act). Conceal gun laws allow citizens to practice their carrying rights wherever they go. The main reason given by people when purchasing a handgun is “protection against people”. “Sixty-three percent of people say that the major incentive for them to carry a gun is protection against other people”(Turkewitz, “Sixty-three”). Citizens are carrying a weapon for their own protection, others protection, and they are scared of criminals. Even though some guns are bought for personal use the people that carry them can help others if they are in great danger. The majority of citizens that fire a gun in public are firing for self defence or self preservation. “As long as the attacker was intending to cause harm and could harm you then it is ok to protect yourself by firing a weapon”(secondcalldefence.org). It is not a crime to fire a weapon for self defense depending on the situation. The Personal Reciprocity Act- “This ensures that law-abiding citizens have the right to protect and defend themselves in our nation's capital by allowing individuals with a lawful carry permit to lawfully carry registered firearms”(The Personal Reciprocity Act). This act allows lawful citizens to carry guns in public in case of an emergency or self defence reason. Firing a gun in public is sometimes necessary and can be legal depending on certain situations.
Gun control laws cannot alter the rights to own a gun or to use one; furthermore, the second amendment states that it is illegal to infringe the right to own a gun. Under the second amendment the government is not allowed to take your guns away unless for evidence, no conceal permit, or illegally in possession.
