Access to firearms makes murder easy, efficient, and nonpersonal, which increases the chance a crime will be committed. Josh Sugarmann, the Executive Director of the Violence Policy Center has once said, "We recoil in horror and search for explanations, but we never face up to the obvious preventive measure: a ban on the easy killing machines that makes murder and robbery so easy.” Allowing uncertified people to carry guns puts all others at risk and it can result in self-harming injuries caused by unintentional accidents, in which the worst case scenario can end with one or more people involved dead. Gun violence in America kills more than 30,000 and injures almost 70,000 each year. Firearms can be misused and abused, which is why gun control is a necessity. Gun control is government regulation of the manufacture, sale, and possession of firearms. Gun control can limit the access of criminals getting their hands on firearms, which will lead to the decrease of violent crime.
Our nation has suffered so much from misuse of firearms. The problem isn’t that people own guns, it’s the fact that people use them in a way that the companies did not intend them to be used. If people would use them for their actual purpose, we would never have to face the problems of murder and mass shootings. Most gun owners are responsible and law-abiding citizens who use their guns safely, but on the other hand you have the ones who steal guns and use them for bad things. President Obama thinks that if we all work on this together it could potently save lives one at a time but this will be a very long time depending on if everyone helps to defeat the bad use of guns. People are saying that guns and criminals aren’t really the problem because anyone can commit a crime.
