In the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment in the Constitution reads: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”(Bill of Rights) There are many effects and Consequences of Gun Control. The right for of all Americans to bear arms is a right even the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the Constitution itself. Whether or not gun control laws work, the fact of the matter is that these kind of laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration. Even if that issue is overlooked, gun control advocates state that in order to reduce firearm related violence, gun control laws must be implemented to remove the violence caused by firearms. Although this may seem reasonable, the consequences of such laws are ironically counterproductive; they increase the problem instead of fixing it. Besides the fact that the American Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to bear arms, the idea of restricting gun ownership in order to reduce firearm-related violence, I think would ultimately fail.
I am not against gun control, just the current law being proposed. All Americans, including gun owners, support responsible gun laws which keep criminals from buying guns. But just because a law is passed, doesn 't mean that every person that owns a gun wants more laws. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The reason I choose this topic is because gun control is a very controversial topic going on in the United States and also around the world. Gun control has been an issue for a long time in history. Given the previous experiments of gun control around the world, a good example of this would be with Adolf Hitler in Germany, Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union, or with Fidel Castro and Cuba. It makes no sense to me why people would want to give up their constitutional right because they believe in the

    Not many people choose to look at the actual statistics of deaths or injuries caused by firearms. There was a saying that I heard once, “Guns do not fire themselves, people fire guns”. Out of all the statistics, you are most likely to get killed in a car accident, than you are getting shot by an actual gun. I have stated all the facts that I have researched, now I would like to state my opinion of this topic since that is also part of an actual discussion. Reading these articles and seeing the opinions of other people has opened my eyes a bit. I personally live with two avid hunters, and not once has there been any kind of gun related accident in or around my home. I think some of these laws are quite ridiculous, and that they are mainly there to try and control people’s right to bare arms.     The problem that splits gun control proponents from their opposition is the language of the second amendment of the constitution. The founding fathers of this nation believed that, “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” (U.S. Constitution). This multifaceted sentence from the Bill of Rights brings many quarrels to life with its simple diction. It is very open to interpretation, which is what causes both sides of the debate to have “legal stances” on the matter. The National Rifle Association (NRA), which is the nation’s largest gun advocacy organization, is led by the philosophy that it, “[hosts] a wide range of firearms-related public interest activities of the National Rifle Association of America and other organizations that defend and foster the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans.” What gun advocates in the NRA often fail to understand, however, is the conscionable limits to the Second Amendment. As 27-year serving Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia stated in the majority opinion of the District of Columbia V. Heller decision, “like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited” (Scalia). This lead Scalia to also state that, “it is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.” These sanctions are legal proof that the second amendment allows for the government to regulate the distribution, ownership, and use of weapons.     Americans have a natural right with the Second amendment. Nelson Lund, a Professor at George Mason University School of Law, once stated how, “The right to self-defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right that grows out of the right to life and many gun control laws interfere with the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against violent criminals” (Gun Control - ProCon). People have a right to safety, and a right to defend themselves. Many citizens acknowledge and defend this right.
