Gun Control “Rewriting the Second Amendment” Some people believe that not everyone should be able to have access to guns mostly because people are getting killed accidentally, by crazy and by mentally ill people. But others believe that gun control will lead to gun confiscation. Then gun confiscation might lead to extermination. Nobody will be able to defend themselves. The article, “Rewriting the Second Amendment” talks about how people should have the ability to defend themselves with guns but, only for self defense. But a deal on expanding background checks is the new top goal for gun control, and Barack Obama is facing increasing pressure from many in his party to show leadership. Obama agrees to an individual's right to bear arms, in principle, but does not take it as an absolute right. Others argue that if the government takes away people’s right to bear arms; nobody will be able to protect themselves. Criminals will also always find a way to obtain their guns, leaving law-abiding citizens without any weapons to use in defense. Guns in the possession of citizens are an added protection against government tyranny. “Banning guns will take away yet another piece of our liberty, which is one more step to socialism and totalitarianism. Woman and weaker individuals may have no means of self-defense from rape or other crimes, especially in the inner city. Crimes are often prevented by the deterrent effect of the possibility of victim gun possession. I believe that the government should be stricter on gun control laws. Everyone should not have the right to own a gun. Guns should not be made accessible to everyone in the general public. The shootings that recently happened in Newtown, CT and Aurora, Colo. would be a good example to use. When would it ever be necessary for anyone to own the types
