Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Floorwax is a common material used to polish and preserve floor. Floors that are made from wood are usually applied with floorwax in order to prevent termites from eating it. Nowadays, floorwax are always use in almost every hosehold and school. So, the researchers came up with the study out of used candles, gumamela and kerosene as a floorwax. The mainmaterial that will be used in this study is the candle. A candle is a solid block of wax with an embedded wick which is ignited to provide light and heat. Candles are easily melted when directly in heat. Used colored candle will be used to create the floorwax. The researchers will melt it and put some color by adding the extract of a gumamela flower. Gumamela (Hibiscus rosa) is used in a variety of ways by many cultures, including here in the Philippines. It contains quite a few properties in it that have been known to help someone healthy or to cure certain issues concerning the heart. Gumamela, when crushed, a sticky juice comes out. Red Gumamela also produced a red-colored substance along with its extract. This sticky substance is known as mucilage. This will be used to be the coloring material for the floorwax. Along with kerosene, it will be used for the coloring and prevent the candle from hardening. Kerosene is a combustible hydro carbon liquid, it is derived from Greek Keros meaning wax. Kerosene is widely used to power jet engines of aircraft. The researchers will used it in order to prevent the candle from hardening. The researchers came up with the idea of making a coloredfloorwax, because the use of floorwax is now increasing especially in schools. The researchers want to create an alternative floorwax with the use of common materials. The research study will be conducted for eight months, starting from July 2014 to February 2015. Experimentation will be done. The main ingredients will be the candles of any color, the gumamela, and the kerosene From the information above, the researchers aim to create an alternative floorwax out of common materials. The researchers also want to help beneficiaries. The researchers will do their best to achieve all the objectives. The said researchers will also do their experiments for them to make a better and improved product.
Objectives of the Study 1. To make the floor smooth when applied and scrubbed. 2. To make the floor shiny when applied and scrubbed. 3. To produce a colored floorwax

Statement of the Problem The researchers aim to produce an alternative colored floorwax made from colored used candles, gumamela (Hibiscus rosa) and kerosene. The study will be done to answer the following questions: 1. Will the product smoothen the floor when it is applied and scrubbed? 2. Can the product shine the floor when it is applied and scrubbed? 3. Can the researchers produced a colored floorwax?
Hypotheses of the Study
Null Hypothesis The candle and gumamela will not create a colored floorwax that can effectively shine and smoothen the floor.
Alternative Hypothesis The candle and gumamela will create a colored floorwax that can effectively shine and smoothen the floor.
Significance of the Study This study aim to produce an alternative colored floorwax made from colored used candles, gumamela(Hibiscus rosa) and kerosene. This study will also brought benefit to the following: Candle makers, they will be benefited because they can use their left over wax for making candle and use it to create a floorwax. They can also be benefited in a way that they can lessen the cost of buying the needed materials since they already have the supply of the main ingredient, which is the wax. They can also use the product in order to protect the floor especially from termites when the floor is made of wood. Floorwaxmanufacturer, the floorwax manufacturers will be benefited by the researchers’ study for these companies can produce or endorse a new floorwax out of used candles, gumamela and kerosene. Students, the students will be benefited by the researchers’ floorwax, because they can produce a cheaper floorwax which will lessen their expenses provided for buying floorwax. Teachers, the teachers will be benefited from the researchers’ floorwax, because teachers may not allocate funds for floorwax and let their students produce a floorwax from candles, gumamela and kerosene. So parents who complain requiring students to buy or bring floorwax will be lessened. Housewives, they will be benefited by this study because they can produce an effective floorwax and they can recycle the used candles. And also this kind of floorwax is helpful to them to lessen the termites in their houses. Future researchers, the future researchers will be benefited by this study because they can improve the researchers’ product. Future researchers can make a way to produce an odorless, shinier, cheaper and scrub lessfloorwax.
Scope and Limitation This study aims to produce a colored floorwax that will smoothen and shine the floor when it is applied to the floor and scrubbed. Furthermore, the researchers also aim create a floorwax with a unique color. Statistics will be used in each variable of the study. This study is limited since only an experimental research will be conducted. This study of the researchers will be limited to gumamela and used colored candles only. The color of the floorwax will depend on the color of the used candles.

There were a numerous amount of observations and patterns in the data throughout the candle lab. The hypothesis was if the amount of candles inside the jar increases by an increment of one, then the weight of water in the jar will increase as well. The hypothesis was proven to be true, since for every candle added there was about 33 grams of water more. Every time the jar was placed over the candles, there would always be bubbles around the rim, also as more candles were used, the jar became cloudier and the bottom of the jar became more charred. The bottom of the jar also got hot, and after the jar was taken off the candles there would be grey smoke. The flame got larger as more candles were added, and the smell remained constant.…

During the burning period, the flame vaporizes the candle’s wax which yields water and carbon dioxide into the air. This causes the candle to melt slightly and drip down the sides of the candle, which shows a change after the burning period. Also, the whole purpose of the experiment was to increase observational skills and think of ways to perform the experiment with provided tools in the laboratory. Practicing accurate measuring and data collecting skills due to human nature as vision can be be unreliable sometimes.…
