Every fall the Gulfport Humane Society holds a community-wide fundraiser to help suppmi their needs for the growing numbers of cats and dogs housed at the shelters. Soonerthon is a year-long fundraising event ending with a twelve-hour dance marathon in the spring. All the proceeds raised benefits The Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City through funding medical research and family support programs. The programming committee is in charge of planning every minute of the twelve-hour event dance marathon. Within the committee, my personal responsibility was to design and organize a children’s carnival at the main event for the “miracle kids” from the hospital. The joy that radiated from the children that passed through the carnival was contagious, not only to myself but also to the other 2,000 OU students that attended the Soonerthon event as well.…

East Minico would like a total $1,500 to provide incentives for students to come to school. East would like to reward grade levels for having good attendance, grades, and behavior. Our idea is that the grade level with the best attendance percentage would earn a point each week. After each trimester, students in the grade level with the most points will earn a reward party. The money ($500 per trimester) would go towards some sort of treat (E.g. ice cream, pizza, pop, etc.) and to buy rewards (such as gift cards or certificates) for students in drawing. Students would be added to the drawing based on their attendance that trimester.…

A large part of the activities involved in this project consisted of convincing a community saturated with solicitation that our cause was worthy and they should donate. Since there was a lot of solicitation already in this area it was very difficult to pierce through the skepticism and suspicion of merchants. Our team found it hard to convince the area merchants to make a donation of goods or money. Every positive outcome was doubly appreciated because it was a success of our tactics and also brought us closer to our goal. We asked 38 merchants for donations and received 22 donations of money, food, or merchandise. Every yes we received caused enthusiasm to persevere and the momentum was used as a tool to convince others about the great cause.…

The event we would like to run is all inclusive board game night called: “The Bored Cafe” run on the 5 and 6 of October, which is a Thursday and Friday. We would invite the grade nines and tens on Thursday and elevens and twelves for the Friday. Furthermore, We'll decorate the cafeteria to be fall themed, pumpkins, fake leaves, orange tablecloths for example. The reason for the separation is to hopefully diminish the fear grade nines have of the senior students. We find that a lot of new students are intimidated by the older grades and avoid events where there will be a high concentration of senior students. Rather than have an admission coast we would like to ask students to bring an item to donate to the food bank, also all proceeds made from selling food and drinks would…

Although the equal rights of animals is in question, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) effectively advocates for the well-being of animals by providing health care assistance and legal advocacy, searching out the problem to find a solution that is potent, and rescuing them from danger. The ASPCA does compile available resources with intentions to better the lives of animals. Statistics substantiate that the numbers of animals entering shelters in a year's time does not counterpart with the number of animals leaving the shelter in the same year’s time. For this reason, the ASPCA sets out to not only find, but also to resolve the conflict. The organization has…

Attending the student involvement fair was a great experience. On the surface, the fair’s main purpose was to provide an outlet for students to engage in on campus activities that may strike their interest; however, I found it to be much more powerful than that. This involvement fair was not only a way to showcase Penn State and its nearly 900 clubs, but also a way to draw from each student interests and talents that may have been unknown to them. After attending the fair and meeting a several different organizations, I know that I have become a part of something bigger, and will be able to have experiences and be provided opportunities like no other.…
