The history of the Native Americans didn’t start when Columbus bumped into the Americas, “… it began when their ancestors fell from the sky, emerged from under the earth, were transformed from ash trees into people, entered the world through a hollow log…” (pg. 14). Many people who don’t know any better, or just don’t research, still believe that before any outsiders came, that Natives lived horrible lives; never had enough food, weren’t that intelligent, and had no concept of “civilized life.” Of course the reality was the complete opposite; numerous generations of Indians had already inhabited the area, developed survival techniques to suit particular areas, established small/large communities, appointed leaders, kept in contact “with their…

According to the latest scenario of the Natural Gas Analysis, the Natural Gas market in India is expected to be the one of the fastest growing in the world during the next two decades. Among its segments LPG has made a substantial progress to become the most convenient, cost effective and pollution free means of fuel, especially in the middle class segment. LPG market in India is not at all versatile and competitive. It’s a part of the Indian economy is still untouched by privatization. After 1991, many companies tried jumping in the LPG market but could not survive against Government OMCs like IOCL, HPCL and BPCL. The reason behind such failure is the heavy subsidy given by the Government in domestic LPG. The commercial and Industrial LPG is unsubsidized because of which companies like RIL and Assar are giving tough competition to PSUs in this section. Heavy subsidy on domestic LPG creates a no entry for any private player. For a foreign entrant there is a great scope in the non-subsidized and commercial sector. For inviting the private players, government should publicize auto gas (LPG) as a major fuel for automobiles.…

The past few months have been quite boring with very little action and almost no traveling. The exams added on to the lethargy and the only new excitement came from the horrendous question papers. We planned a trip to Kedarnath, Badrinath and Gangotri to get over all this boredom. Bookings and reservations were dealt with and right after my exams I boarded the New Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi. The idea of a trek and a trip in the mountains away from the heat of Delhi was so exhilarating I could hardly sit and write the answers (DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME) and now I am wondering if I will pass or not.…

the great himalayas:The Great Himalayas lie north of the Lower Himalayan Range. These mountains are bounded by the Indus River in the north and the west as the river takes a southward turn at Sazin. The average height of the range is about 6000 meters. Some of the highest peaks in the world lie in these mountains e.g. Nanga Parbat (8126 meters), which is the ninth highest peak in the world and the second highest peak in Pakistan. Since the mountains are perpetually covered with snow there are many glaciers, with Rupal Glacier being the longest (17.6 km). The glacial action has created many beautiful lakes like the Saiful Muluk lake which lies in the upper Kaghan Valley. Another noticeable geographic feature of this area are the deep gorges carved by the Indus in this region. The deepest of which, located at Dasu-Patan region (Kohistan District), is 6500 meters deep. In fact, this is the deepest gorge in the world, so deep, that even if the highest mountain of North America, Europe or Antarctica were to be placed at its deepest point, the peak would still not project beyond the top.…
