The breed of guinea pig in Figure 5, is an American Short Coat, also known as American. Americans are identified by their common shape, smooth, short coat and roman nose (Online Guinea Pig Care, 2014). These are the most popular breed of guinea pig, most often found in pet shops and can come in many different colours and markings. The ten basic coat colours and markings are: self (one solid colour), dutch, brindle, tortoiseshell, roan, agouti, albino, dalmatian, himalayan (Dr. Foster, Dr. Smith, n.d).
