Guiding Journal Entry

Journal Entries: What “new” guiding practices or techniques have you been using based on what you learned in Guiding 1? Why? I work with infant and toddlers. I have been using both indirect and direct techniques to guide children as I am currently working with children who are still developing their language skills. I with my colleague rearranged the room recently where we would have more open area and the shelving units were placed against the wall for more stability. The physical changes we made helped us to supervise the children better and step in immediately if we see any incidents like biting, hitting or pushing situations happening. We have limitations to make the area more children assessable as we are using the church
We also take care of their babies, read and sing songs for their baby dolls. I help them start the play and as children start playing together, start getting creative I allow the children to continue and I become an observer and enjoy observing their play and intervene when needed. Describe something a child or children did that “tweaked” your interest and why? What might you infer about this or do with information? It was amazing to see the creativity and the imagination of the children even when they do not have much of language. Children aged between 15 -24 month olds were putting the popsicle sticks into and around different sized jars and containers. This child went and got some lego blocks, put in popsicle sticks into the block and pretended that to be ice cream tray with ice cream. I was really amazed with his imagination. The other children also joined him in for the ice cream party. This activity showed me that the children interest in pretend play, where children were taking different roles, learning new vocabulary and social skills. From my understanding I will encourage their play by introducing an ice cream prop box which would have aprons, different colored playdough, cups, popsicle sticks, fake money to enhance their
