Grownups Are a Different Species
GROWN-UP’S ARE A DIFFERENT SPECIES
Understanding grown-up’s is never easy. They hold on to things that were. They wonder what’s to come... and then they think they know everything just because they have experience! Really!!
Antoine de Saint said: “Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it’s tiresome for children to be forever explaining things to them”.
For example: Have you ever seen a grown-up just after they got a new cell phone? They’re too scared to explore the menu options, too scared to press any button and clueless on how to use the phone. Pass it on to the children and we’ll figure it out in a second. I think it is because grown-ups are very self-conscious when first trying new technology – it is after all not like they’ve grown up with it. I mean, picture this, growing up without television! Ha!
Children constantly use their imagination. We learn through experiencing, we must first see, hear and try, before we fully understand. Grown-ups are rational, logical, objective, and thrive on precise explanations. Ask a simple question and you’ll get the most boring, cumbersome answer. Let me give you an example: You ask a simple question: “What do you call a baby worm?”. Now, the answer: “Let me explain, a baby cat is called a kitten, a baby dog is called a puppy, and on and on they go, explaining the whole lifecycle of all animal species on earth and finally getting to that of the worm. And all that I actually wanted to know was: “Do you call it a baby worm or simply a shorter worm?”
Randall Jarrell rightly says: “One of the most obvious facts about grown-up’s is that they have forgotten what it’s like to be a child”. Suddenly they turn into their parents: “No, you can’t swim when it is dark, you’ll get sick” or “Finish all the food on your plate, there are millions of hungry children in the world”. Or what about: “Don’t trust anyone”. Come on! How can I not trust my friends and family?
Friends, do I need to say more, grown-ups are
