Growing Up Too Fast
Growing Up Too Fast
ENGL -1001-

A lot of people think teens are growing up to fast. In the book “The Longman Writer” they are calling kids from 8 to 12 Tweens. Why? because the new teens are starting at the age of 8 to 12 years-old now. “Nickeloden –Yankelovich Youth Monitor found that by the time they are 12, children describe themselves as “flirtatious, sexy, trendy, athletic, cool.”(p.213 ch.12) Kids are growing up too for their own good. Well I think kids are growing up to early; 8 and 12 year-olds need to act their age. “Dramatic physical, mental, and social changes take place during the tween years.”(About.com).The reason why children are acting to grow, because their parents are letting the children do anything they want. Growing up to fast causes kids to wearing makeup, sexy clothes, and getting arrested at an early age. Why kids are growing up so early, because kids are in grown folks business.

It is time we take our children back from the streets and from growing up to fast. We need to talk to our children; one on one talk. We need to pick their brain to see what’s going on in their head. We need to stop letting kids be in grown folks business.

These factors are giving the effect that “emerging adulthood” is not happening as quickly. I have chosen this topic because it holds the future of our children and the future of our country within its laws and courtrooms. By treating our children as adults for crimes they commit, are we holding them accountable or are we creating “super-predator” out of our troubled youth? Not only are we creating our future criminals but we are arming them with experience and an education that far exceeds that of a classroom or book. The end result will be a future of violence that will only escalate and end with more deaths, heinous crimes, and an increase in mental health issues, drug and alcohol addiction and eventually the deterioration of our society. Parents, policy makers, mental health professionals and the judicial system should work together as team to battle this crucial issue.…

Good and evil will determine the effects of which path a young mind its taught so that’s why parents must educated well with good intensions for a better future. The age of a teenager shows history how it transformed the world including the United States by family values, the high school, and dangerous adolescences etc. What teenagers did was start a fashion changing the world and its rules, becoming rebellious toward their parents values for example pregnancy acured after a marriage but that is not the case anymore for young Americans today. Today sexuality is expressed more than ever with young American by their clothes, attitudes, and way of thinking. Media can be the cause of all this you might say but, before the 1950s even before the 1900s being a rebel toward every rule of tradition was broken making the term teenagers rise. Teenage years can be a challenging time for many individuals. Beginning at the age of 11 through 20, adolescence is defined as a “transitional period in the human life span, linking childhood and adulthood” (Santrock 2009). At this point, the person is no longer a child, but not yet an adult. This makes it a very critical and sensitive time frame for identity formation.…

In the early centuries, the teen years were looked upon as very weird. It was a phenomenon that scared, and frightened people. All of the sudden, the teen who was once a kid is now hostile, and has changed plenty. Now in this day in time, scientists and psychologists are now unearthing more and more about the teenage brain. Discovering what is causing all this change in behavior. For me, after interviewing my parent, and looking at their questionnaire, it is safe to assume that teen’s brains and thought processes are different of an adult’s brain. Scientists’ are also backing up this claim.…

Yet they come under scrutiny for growing up too fast, both mentally and physically. I think the author is trying to imply that even though our generation of teenagers are exposed to sexually explicit content and far more violence, thanks to the introduction of video games such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto etc. 13 year olds only seem to be interested in having a small slice of what adult life actually is. Examples of this can be found in the article. A Time magazine’s poll conducted on 13 year olds clearly states, ‘three quarters have not yet started dating and 60% say people should postpone sex until marriage. Another poll conducted by NBC news found ‘12% of 13 year olds said they had oral sex but three times that many admitted they didn't know what oral sex was.’ This suggests the actions of the minority are causing society to question all teens moral values. The author by including these facts, is strongly suggesting to me that she believes that teenagers of my generation are being unfairly judged. I guess it's not the first our society has stereotyped a group, whether it maybe because of our race, sexuality or just the clothes we wear around town. Making judgments based on stereotypes only leads to widening of the ridge in the relationship my generations of teenagers are having with the older generations because respect is not one's birth right,…

I grew up too fast. That’s really all I can say on the matter. I’ve lived with my grandparents since I was a few months old, due to ongoing family issues. Either way, my home life hasn’t exactly been normal. Despite the jealousy and inferiority complex I had as a child due to those things, my focus was my grandparents. I wanted to help them in any way I could because I could. Then my grandmother got sick. I was only in seventh grade, I had just got into a group therapy program for my anxiety and depression. My grandmother was in and out of a few hospitals. My grandfather didn’t take it well. We visited her in rehabilitation daily. He struggled with depression and some alcohol issues, leaving me to make dinner for myself and him, take care of my dogs, get…
