Group Interview Reflection
I facilitate groups at my internship Andover Subacute and Rehab Center. The individuals in the groups are ex-alcoholics and drug abusers. Around 6-10 people usually attend the groups, we discuss different topics that have to do with their recovery and the process they took. Due to HIPAA, I was not able to record the clients, so I will be using my process recordings. A majority of the group members are of old age, so listening is a very good quality that I have. It is hard for me to understand many of the group members at the time because of their low voices. I have to listen very carefully to be able to understand what they are saying. I had a group session so it was a little difficult to be attentive to all the group members. Even though I had a big group I try my best to make sure that …show more content…
I can not relate to the group members because I have not had any experiences with drugs or alcohol. I would not have been able to disclose any information that could relate to them. Sometimes some members of the group would ask me if I have done certain things, but I usually tried in some way ignore the question without them noticing by asking another question. I always show empathy when I have sessions with the group because I feel like it is a very important skill. Showing empathy is being able to relate to the members of the group emotion and thoughts. My group always opens up to me a lot about their past and how they are feeling now. By showing empathy with my group I am able to provide support and focus my attention on them.
Another skill I used is open-ended questions. Open-ended questions are useful for me because it is a way for me to get the group involved. It gives me a chance to better understand the members of the group because it kind of forces them to open up. I get more out of the clients besides yes or no questions If I asked a closed-ended question to my group, they simply would not converse

When effective group management and high organisation skills are applied, group work can bring students a wide range of skills and abilities related to people and problem solving. Group work demonstrates student’s capacity to communicate effectively, share and consider opinions, establish trust, analyse the group process, resolve conflicts and also develop their creativity. When working with an individual I could adapt the environment to try and improve the effectiveness of communication, for example adjusting the lighting or creating a quiet area so that we are away from noisy activity or distractions. I could also make sure that I am clearly seen by the person I am trying to communicate with so that they can observe my body language and use of eyes and facial expressions. I could also speak slower to enable the individual understand what I am saying and also allow for silences so that the individual can process the information that I have given them.…

In my current position, as a house supervisor, I work with five other nurses to provide 24 hour coverage within our facility. As a group, we all have varying degrees of experience and range in age from the youngest member, in her mid-20s, to our oldest member who is 64 years old. Working within this multigenerational group has led to some difficulties in communication and expectations among members as I will expand upon further.…

The Building Empathy in Healthcare article mentions a couple of reasons of the importance of empathy. Empathy helps build trust and increases patient compliance, as a result, patients have better recovery rates. According to a research study, doctors provide better service when their patients fully verbalize their emotional concerns (Killam, 2014). It is no secret that being a doctor is a stressful job; however, health providers and even patients can help physicians physically recharge through burnouts. In order to ensure that we are truly empathetic towards patients, we must remember where we came from. Before a person becomes a health provider they had to go through certain training and practices to reach their job position. The best way to include empathy is to remember that at some point in time we were patients; put ourselves in the patient's shoes. We have all experienced similar experiences, and everyone goes through problems, no matter how big or small the issues are. Healthcare professionals need to teach their students and remind them how effective empathy can be; not only for the patients but everyone who is part of the healthcare system. Reinforcing empathy to our daily healthcare practices will most definitely make a difference to many lives, including…

Rebecca Brush attended Delaware Valley School board meeting held on, October 20, 2016, at 7 o'clock pm. The first major issue discussed was the results from multiple test scores and what direction they were going. We went through all of the elementary school's test results given to us by the first and secondary education chairmen and women, Dr. James Purcell, Dr. Peg Schaffer, and Dr. Gina Vitacco-Vives. They explained after installing a new curriculum the test scores had skyrocketed. For the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment test the district was at 74.9 while the state was down at 60.4 for English. Mathematics was at 53.2 for the district and 42.5 for the state. Science was a whopping 83.1 for the district and only a 67.0 for the state. The…

This will then help you to respond in the correct manner. You need to be considerate and show empathy where needed. In the recent group activity, I was a member in a group of four. I had been absent from class when the groups were allocated and the two members present were given the task of choosing each of our roles. I felt they chose the more difficult roles for themselves, the introduction and conclusion, although I base that on the knowledge of my own strengths and weaknesses, with no knowledge of theirs. They assigned the work conflict to me, which I thought was a logical choice, given my occupation as a police officer.…
