Jonathan Edwards wrote this lecture, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” to preach to the congregation of his church during the period of Great Awakening, a time of religious revival. He knows how to persuade and uses numerous techniques to do so. In his sermons, Edward’s expressive, informative, and argumentative writing style and his use of simile, metaphor, personification, imagery, and tone creates a fearful, emotional image in the minds of his readers.…

In this paper, Rankin has presented a challenging and enriching way to point out the seriousness, and need to define and stress Satan’s tactic and schemes in this battle. This book is presents another powerful reminder, that God is actively involved in the lives of those that diligently seek him. This book has provided a great deal of advice for any Christian that is interested in living to glorify God. One bit of advice that stuck with me through reading this book, and advice that has been etched in my heart, and in my spirit as I continue on the battlefield for the Lord, he wrote, “Keep the view from the throne. If we will look at life’s experiences from God’s perspective and what His Word says, then we will not be deceived by Satan who is seeking to defeat us by his lies, distorting reality from God’s kingdom perspective. It’s not really difficult to believe God.”…

A great chasm exists that separates unbelievers from believers1. An example of this chasm is presented in the Gospel of Luke, “And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.”2 The chasm is presented in the “afar off” statement. This chasm, as pointed out by David Wheeler and Richard Leach, is what makes evangelism necessary. Essentially, every Christian is to seek a way to bridge these chasms bringing the unbeliever face-to-face with their Creator3. In order to perform this great task, and the task was as great in the Apostles’ day as today, “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest”4 the Christian servant today must rely on the Lord in every aspect and seek out opportunities to present Christ to those around him. Seeing then that there is such great work ahead, and the laborers have been assigned their task, “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him”5, the only success to be found is through sharing the faith by the Word of God through the Spirit…

Fay's work Share Jesus Without Fear is a highly systematic method that is meant to be used as guide for otherwise ineffective christians share the Gospel. Fay begins the book by sharing his extremely sinful past and his path to redemption. Fay follows with his frank criticisms of evangelicals. Fay writes on page three that evangelizing is about being a faithful follower not about saving souls. Fay points out that only five to ten percent of christians have shared their faith in the last twelve months. He goes on to state that most Christians find comfort in their new community of believers instead of returning to the community of non-believers to share what Jesus has done in their lives. On page six Fay shares his…

Besides, Jesus already defeated them, making a public spectacle of them (Col. 2:13-15), and has made those who believe and obey His Gospel more than conquerors (Ro. 8:37). We have gained a surpassing victory because the Father in Heaven set His love upon us through His beloved Son. By God’s grace through faith, we have been made joint-heirs with Christ Jesus the Lord, and He is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters (Ro. 8:17; Heb. 2:11). This book focuses on just that—living in this world as joint heirs with Christ, as more than conquerors through His love for…

The book, Questioning Evangelism, is about sharing the gospel with others in a way that will create conversations instead of arguments and Randy Newman is able accomplishes this in his dialoguing throughout the book. This book is a monograph on evangelism and delves into ways a person is able to evangelise without a step-by-step process. Randy Newman starts the book with a style of evangelism that responds to the unbeliever’s questions with a question instead of an answer. By doing this a person is prone to listen more to the other person and avoids having to try answer questions that they have no answer to answer at the time. This style comes from the Jewish culture and how they speak to each other.…

This mission reminds us that for the Kingdom of God to continue to break in, individual lives need to be changed, while being motivated and equipped for transformation. Our Book of Discipline offers this cue: “God has used our church to save persons, heal relationships, transform social structures, and spread scriptural holiness, thereby changing the world.” When we change lives and introduce people to the all-loving nature of God, we indeed transform the world. When making disciples, the Church welcomes people into community, educates them on God’s call for Christians, and equips them toward using their spiritual gifts to serve as change agents playing a role in bringing about the Kingdom of…

When we speak the truth in love it puts the enemy to flight. We have to stop being victims of the enemy’s tactics by bathing ourselves with the Word of God. God’s word is never second choice but should roll off our tongues in an instance. The word says to take every thought captive and the only way we can take the thoughts captive is to know the word and make instant application. Surrender our homes to God daily, pray in our homes and anoint our doorpost with oil (“literally put the devil out – purge our homes of anything considered an idol) (look around you’d be surprised – but ask the Holy Spirit to show you – then purge). Sanctify your home and ask God and the Holy Spirit to dwell richly there in! Purge your heart through fasting and prayer- ask God to show you what is there that should not be, then confess your sins and ask forgiveness) Now start anew “( we are new creations and old habits are hard to break so we have to practice daily surrendering to God, His will and His…

Grounded in one’s core beliefs’ is the assumptions that guide their thought process (Walsh, 2013). People's assumptions are the second major concept within CBT, and this includes how a person perceives themselves and how they view others (Gladstone, 2017). In the case study, Asif has constructed a false misconception of himself that has been reinforced by his tendency to think negatively about the past and current life events (Walsh, 2013). This point confirms that there is a connection between one’s schemas and the assumptions they make. One of Asif's assumptions is based on the belief that no girls would like him because he is a "nice guy." He expressed that he witnessed girls who only friend guys that behave as "jerks" as boyfriend material.…

Some Christians would disagree with this statement and say it is even easier to be a disciple in the 21st century. In this century there are churches all over the world and technology that could help. They would also say this wrong in concerning regular church goers as they would be turned away from sin and be receiving the Holy Spirit. They would also say there are a lot of priests and nuns going out carrying Jesus’ cross and have dedicated their whole life to him. There are also catechists who help to bring the younger generation of the faith. Many Christians find Peters denial of knowing Jesus helpful, they feel that they cannot understand all Jesus' teaching, they may have failed and deserted Jesus, but knowing that those who were closest to Jesus, could still do this, encourages them to struggle on as Christians.…
