Grilled Cheese Problem
Problem Solving 007
Grilled Cheese

In our problem for the week of special topics were are given a problem regarding achieving a best time to make grilled cheeses in a efficient manner in the shortest amount of time. The problem states; You need to make five grilled cheese sandwiches. You have a grill that is large enough to toast two sandwiches at a time. The sandwiches must be toasted one minute on each side. It takes 3 seconds to flip a sandwich and 5 seconds to take one off or put one on the grill. What is the shortest time needed to toast all five sandwiches? So with the information given we can conclude that the sandwiches have to be toasted at least 5 mins so it is obvious we cant get anything lower then 5 mins. Next we make an assumption that we can flip two sandwiches at the same time as well as take off and put on two sandwiches as well as take off two sandwiches all simultaneously. So the best way to solve this problem would be to first simpify the problem so that it is easier to see the soultion. So I decided to label the grill cheeses. Each side is denoted by A, B,C, D, E. So assuming the time starts for for the countdown when the two sandwiches are put on the Grill. Step 1: A B toasted one side 1 min =1min Step 2: Now Remove B and put C 5sec+5sec+3sec=13 sec( for removing B 5 sec + put C 5 sec+ flip A 3sec) Step 3 A C toasted on grill 1 min =1min Step 4: Now Remove A(completed) and put D 5sec+5sec+3sec=13 sec ( for removing A 5 sec + put C 5 sec+ flip C 3sec) Step 5 C D toasted on grill 1min =1min Step 6 (remove C(completed) ,put E, flip D) 5sec+5sec+3sec=13 sec Step 7 D E toasted on grill toasted 1 min =1min Step 8 remove D(completed), put B , flip E 5sec+5sec+3sec=13 sec Step 9 B E toasted on Grill 1 min =1min
TOTAL = 5 min. 52 sec
The process stops as all the five sandwiches are toasted, time is not counted for not taking the A and E off the grill. So the shortest time achievable

    In one of the week 3 discussion questions we discussed the algorithm that would be required to make a peanut butter sandwich. In this CheckPoint you will need to take that one step further and create a program design to make a peanut butter sandwiches. Below you will find a partial program design; you need to complete it by adding the pseudocode in the required areas. You need to add one repetition (loop) control structure and one decision control to complete the program design. The user will decide how many sandwiches are made; this is where the loop will be used. The user will decide if the sandwich includes jelly, and, if it does, what flavor of jelly; to keep it simple we are only allowing grape or strawberry jelly.…

    Cheese and the Worms shows religious conflicts in the sixteenth-century through the court records of a small town miller who used different books to come up with his own view on religion. The fact that a man from a small town with very little education could use his very limited resources to become a target of the Catholic Church shows how much the Church was fighting to hold onto its power and influence. The book draws its information from the inquisition court records, which included the testimony of Menocchio’s fellow villagers and his own interactions with the inquisitors.…

    Irrational numbers are numbers that are neither whole numbers nor ratios of whole numbers. Irrational numbers are real numbers in the sense that they appear in measurements of geometric objects--for example, the number pi (II). However, irrational numbers cannot be represented as decimals, unlike rational numbers, which can be expressed either as finite decimals or as infinite decimals that eventually follow a repeating pattern. By contrast, irrational numbers have infinitely long decimal expansions that never form a repeating pattern. Thus, the number pi can never be written down exactly in decimal form, it can only be approximated, by decimals such as 3.14159. The golden ratio is another famous irrational number approximately equal to 1.618. It appears many times in geometry, art, architecture and other areas…

Physicians ' Reactions to Patient Size Research conducted by: Mikki Hebl and Jingping Xu; Case study prepared by: Emily Zitek Overview Obese people face discrimination on a daily basis in employment, education, and relationship contexts. Past research has shown that even doctors, who are trained to treat all their patients warmly and have access to literature suggesting uncontrollable and hereditary aspects of obesity, believe obese individuals are undisciplined and suffer from controllability issues. This case study examines how doctors treat overweight as compared to normal weight patients. Various doctors at one of three major hospitals in the Texas Medical Center of Houston participated in the study. These doctors were sent a packet containing a medical chart similar to the one they view upon seeing a patient. This chart portrayed a patient who was displaying symptoms of a migraine headache but was otherwise healthy. This chart also contained a measure of the patient 's weight. Doctors were randomly assigned to receive the chart of a patient who was overweight or the chart of a patient who was of normal weight. After reviewing the chart, the doctors then had to indicate how much time they believed they would spend with the patient. Questions to Answer Do doctors discriminate against overweight patients? Specifically, do the doctors who review charts of overweight patients say they would spend the same amount of time with their patients as the doctors who review charts of normal weight patients? Design Issues The method and data described here are only a small part of a larger study. See the reference below for a full description of the study. Descriptions of Variables Variable Patient weight Time Description 1 = average weight, 2 = overweight represents how…

There are lots of activities held such as the fair proper and robotics exhibit. The said event was opened by an opening program. First was a beautiful doxology followed by the singing of national anthem. The DOST hymn was sung. A very inspirational message was given by Dr. Josette T. Biyo.
