A bone fracture is a medical condition where the continuity of the bone is broken. Most bone fractures occur because of high force impact or stress. However, medical conditions which weaken the bone may also be the cause of a fracture. A crack (not only break) in the bone is also known as a fracture. Among health care professionals break is a much less common term when talking about bones. However, both break and fracture mean that the normal bone structure has been disrupted. The greenstick fracture is one of the more gruesome well known type of fracture. A greenstick fracture occurs when a bone bends and cracks, instead of breaking completely in separate pieces.
